Denver is not known for having a lot of lakes, rivers, or reservoirs, but we do have some and the residents enjoy these in the summer months.    There are some that allow motorboats and water skiing, and some restrict visitors to non-motorized vehicles.   There are quite a few within the Denver metro area, and several more taking only a short drive.Aurora Reservoir - Aurora Reservoir is located in Southeastern Aurora and offers lots of outdoor activities.    You can bike, hike, run, or walk the dogs all year long, and during the summer you have more options.    You can only put non-motorized vehicles on the lake.  After the ice clears in March, you can access the water. Leaves change color each fall when they stop photosynthesis so they can rest for the winter when there isn't enough sunlight.   This year with an abundance of rain, it is expected to be more vivid this year than in past years.Want to know the best time to go leaf peeping?   Below find the map of the areas and the dates to view the best colors!  My personal favorite drive is into the Aspen area, and you can see Maroon Bells, which is just stunning.    It is expensive even to park in Aspen, so you may want to do lunch or dinner in Snowmass.   To get to Aspen you drive on I-70, and have to go past Dillon Reservoir, Copper Mountain and Vail, which you may want to do this over a few days, and explore these areas, not just leaf peeping! My second favorite is Ouray and Telluride - OH MY GOODNE...
