Bring out the Margaritas and the tequila!  It's time to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Mexican Independence. "Whatchoo talkin' about, Willis?  It's not Cinco de Mayo!" Many people think Cinco de Mayo is the celebration of Mexican independence, but it is not.  Cinco de Mayo is simply a celebration for a single battle when the Mexicans defeated the occupying French army in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Mexico's Independence day started on September 16, 1810, with the beginning of its ten year war for independence from Spain. Whittier College will present Un Domingo en la Alameda today, September 15, 2010, at the Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts on the campus, followed by a satellite feed of El Grito from Mexico City at 10:00 p.m. This video gives a short summary o...

Whether you are the buyer OR the seller, participating in shortsale proceedings can try your patience, but can be less stressful if you are working with the right agent. Shortsale transacting is defineitely not for the non-dedicated.  I am therefore going to lay down expectations of operating on both sides of the transaction.  IN ALL CASES MAKE SURE YOUR AGENT IS ACCESSIBLE.  My clients will call me late at night to check in and they know I will answer them.  Do they have a specialization , either Partner First Preforeclosure Certified or the more common Certified Distressed Property Expert certification? IF YOU ARE THE BUYER... All I must say is to hurry up and wait!  Well ok there is a little more to it than that. Shortsale proceedings are dependent upon the bank really.  The short sa...

The Whittier Public Library periodically holds auctions to sell books as a way of raising funds to purchase items for use by the library. Currently, there is a silent auction in place that will last until August 28, 2010. The books are donated by the Friends of the Library, a volunteer organization that works many hours every year to help raise funds for the library.  The Friends collect books all year long, and sell them not only at the auctions, but also in their store, which is located at the corner of Comstock and Bailey, Uptown Whittier. You can preview the books, under a glass case, at the Whittier Central Library, where you can also write in your bid in the silent auction.  The Whittier Central Library is located at 7344 Washington Avenue, Whittier, CA 90601.
