When I woke up yesterday, I didn't feeling like jumping right out of bed so I turned on the tv and caught a little news.  There was the usual yucky stuff, but one segment caught my attention.  It's was about a sight called www.Yelp.com  The newscaster mentioned how he travelled 100 days per year and always used Yelp to find the best restaurants, car rentals, etc.  Cool.  Staying in step with my lazy morning, I grabbed my laptop and checked out the site.  Regular people sign in, create a profile, and write reviews of local businesses.  You can even load pictures, your website, and more.  If you haven't checked it out, you really must!  http://hopegoss.yelp.com  Search the MLS for Ventura Real Estate Listings at: www.VenturaRealEstate.org

There are two holiday traditions that will take place in Ventura this weekend.  The Pacific View Mall will host its annual holiday celebration on Saturday with 30 tons of snow and fireworks! Of course, Santa will be there.  He has the very special honor of lighting the Community Tree. The event will also feature music, community performances, children's crafts and great food. Children can frolic in the snow from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday (December 6, 2008). Bring all the children from zero to 12 years of age for a very fun-filled afternoon. Two areas have been designated for the children to enjoy their snow day; ages 5 and under will play in one area while those ranging in age from 6 to 12 years will play in another. The "Holiday Traditions Ventura Style" event at the Pacific View ma...

Green living or sustainable living is a priority of many cities across the nation and the City of Ventura is no exception. The City of Ventura has implemented an environmental campaign to make Ventura a "green living" city. Ventura was the recipient of this year's Energy Efficiency Award bestowed by the California Energy Commission.  The city also received the Flex Your Power Award. In a continued effort to reduce the city's green house emissions and increase its renewable energy sources, the City of Ventura has completed a solar energy project at the City of Ventura's Maintenance Yard.  The new solar system is energy efficient and cost effective making it environmentally friendly. The system produces about 180,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually. That is approximately 45% - 50% ...

This is Dave and Pat Zumbrun sending you greetings from Ventura, California . We have joined the blogging community so that we may share with you community information and events for the Ventura County and Santa Barbara areas.  As real estate professionals, we will also be posting information regarding the real estate market in our areas of expertise and on a national level. Ventura , California as it is commonly referred to, is officially named Buenaventura . The name was given to the area by the Spanish explorers. The explorers chose the name, which means "good fortune", because they referred to the area as the "land of everlasting summers". Good fortune, indeed! I had no idea!  I just saw a news clip about Realtors in a California city hiring a company to paint the lawns of foreclosed properties with dead lawns.  It made me think about my own lawn and my struggle to green up the brown spots.  Cool, now I can just spray a little paint on until it comes back green!  Check out this website that sells the paint http://www.grassbgreen.com/  Of course, I have a few questions about this paint.  Is it bad for the environment?  Can you water the lawn after applying the paint?  If anyone has used this, let us know how it worked out for you.

As I sit hear listening to Bernanke testify to the Congress, I found myself talking (admittedly, rather loudly at times) to a TV.  It occurred to me that maybe my representatives in Congress needed to hear what I have to say.  I'm sure many of you out there have very strong feelings about the current state of our economy, what got us there, and most important, how do we dig ourselves out of this crater we find ourselves in.  I'll spare you my thoughts on this, but I hope you won't spare your government representatives.  Take action, call or email them today.  Here's a website where you can get a phone number, or send them an email http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home/

Lets just say it's like doing a Rubiks Cube while riding a bicycle.  Even though he's hiding his hands behind his back, that's Roman clad with latex gloves and his bag full of trash scoured off his local beach in Ventura on Saturday morning during the Annual Coastal Cleanup Day.         There were multilple sites throughout Ventura County that provided gloves, trash bags, and even snacks and water.  This is Kyla signing in at the Ventura Harbor site.  She attends Villanova Prepatory School in Ojai and received community service credit for participating in the cleanup.         It was a GORGEOUS day to be at the beach!  Many families with children participated.  What a great way to teach our children about respecting nature!             What did we learn?  One of the most plentiful items ...

Ok, I've been on a roll lately with planning for my future.  Along with needing to excercise more, I have a need to save for my retirement.  It still seems so far away.  I've got a 4 year old.  Yikes, it seems that I'll never get a minute to relax, let alone retire someday. Well, I've always heard that you need time on your side to let your money work for you, I just don't know how much time I need to have enough money to feel secure in retiring some day.  Check out this free downloand for a Retirement Savings Calculator.  It's free at www.Vertex42.com - one of my favorite sites in the last few days.  So, after playing with the calculator a few different ways, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to retire someday, barring Princeton, or something like that!
