Lightning fast post meant to make you think... 10 Mistakes People Make with the Criticism (plus 1 bonus): 1. Don't consider the source. 2. Allow it to control their life. 3. Forget that not all criticism is bad. 4. Forbid criticism by underlings. 5. Constantly criticize underlings. 6. Are only friends with those who agree with them. 7. Neglect self-examination from time to time. 8. Refuse to receive constructive criticism. 9. Unjustly criticize when they don't have all the information. 10. A "blind spot" when you're driving your car is that  place just back, behind and over your left shoulder. (You knew that.) And if you don't look over your "blind spot shoulder" before you make a left hand turn or change lanes ~ well, probably 8 times out of 10 you'll be okay, but the other 2 times, you better make sure you're paid up on your car insurance. And there are other blind spots that we can have in life. (It's true.) And it's not necessarily my purpose here to talk about what other blind spots might be that people can have. (You can come up with a list I'm sure.) But what I do want to suggest is, though we might not realize what's going on that we're blind to (and either refuse to look that way in our lives or neglect to look that way), other people can see it. Other people ar...

Lightning fast post meant to make you think... 10 Mistakes People Make with Public Speaking (plus 1 bonus): 1. Expect no "butterflies" to be present. 2. Say, "Um," a lot. 3. Allow emotions to be controlled by audience. 4. Try to be someone they're not. 5. Think they can just show up without much prep. 6. Over practice. 7. Don't get a good night's sleep. 8. Don't eat a good meal before (go on an empty stomach). 9. Apologize for themselves. 10. Note a flub (mistake they make) during a speech / as they're speaking (most people won't notice). I'm talking about "last minute" people in this one. (I think the word is: procrastinators.) LAST MINUTE NOT ALL BAD And let me just say at the outset that it's not always a bad thing that you wait until the last minute. I mean, football and basketball players do it all the time. Right? They wait until the end of the game to kick the winning field goal. The wait until the last second to sink the winning shot. So if you're a "last minute" person, you remember that. You just might have a career ahead of you playing for the San Francisco 49ers or Los Angeles Lakers. A SIGN OF SELFISHNESS And it is true that being a "last minute" person (back to the bad sense now) is really a sign of selfishness. Here's what I mean. When you do things at the last minute and other people pay for it (in waiti...

Lightning fast post meant to make you think... 10 Mistakes People Make with the Past (plus 1 bonus): 1. Beat themselves up over it. 2. Have a hard time forgiving and letting go of the hurts. 3. Rehearse what happened over and over and over again in their minds. 4. Forget there are second chances no matter what happened. 5. Think the bad that took place was all their fault. 6. Become puffed up with pride over accomplishments. 7. Miss that there's nothing that can be done to change it. 8. Accumulate "baggage" (physical, emotional, relational) that paralyzes them in the present. 9. Neglect preparing for the future during it. 10. Wish they could go back. BONUS Are forever trapped by the "good ol' days" (can't let it go).You might also be interested in: 10 Mistakes People Make with Decision...

It's really not hard to create your very own eBook. Of course, you need some original content to start with. If you're a blogger, you could grab a list of common posts you've already written and combine those. Here are two examples where I did just that: Social Media ~ Volume 1 (includes Blogging and Pinterest) and Social Media ~ Volume 2 (includes Facebook and Twitter). Once you have your content, you need to get it into a Word document or you can use Writer from the OpenOffice.org program that is available for download for free from the web. If you are going to be using hyperlinks in your eBook, you will want to use OpenOffice instead of Word. When you are ready to save your eBook in OpenOffice, you can export it to a PDF file which will keep the hyperlinks "live." On the other hand,...

I want to show you how you can create a picture out of any file: Word doc, PowerPoint slide, Excel spreadsheet, Web page, etc. (Btw, I've created all the thumbnails in this blog post this way. Each are clickable and will open up into a new window or tab. My first example to the left is of my Pinterest page.) The way I do it is by simply using the "Print Screen" key on my computer keyboard. Whatever is on the screen at the time you press the "Print Screen" key will be captured to your computer clipboard. Then what I do is I open Microsoft Paint. (see thumbnail 2 on the right) (Start Button > All Programs > Accessories > Paint) In Paint, I choose Edit in the menu bar at the top, then Paste. What was "print screened" to the clipboard now appears on the screen again in Paint. Now, I choose...

Are you a "one trick pony"? Yahoo! Answers offers a good description of what a one trick pony is. See if it matches you: "The slang term 'trick pony' is used to refer to something which can only be used for one very specific application. The term "a one trick pony" is also used to describe people; for example, a chef who can only produce one really good dish might be known as a one trick pony. The term is generally used in a disparaging way, since it suggests a lack of flexibility and an inability to work outside very specific parameters. Most people try to avoid creating or becoming a one trick pony for this very reason." And I guess what I really wanted to focus on in this statement to make a point is the following: "[I]t (the one trick pony reference) suggests a lack of flexibility ...

Well, it really isn't a secret. Especially if you've already "liked" our Facebook page you'll know that I offer a free eBook download for a "like." (see thumbnail) Now I'd like to show you how to set up your own free eBook download. Deal? :) What I currently use is the Static html: iframes tabs app (formerly known as a "Like" gate). Once the app is installed on your Facebook business (/fan) page, you can then add the appropriate html code to set up an eBook download. HOW TO CREATE AN EBOOK It's really not hard to create an eBook. Of course, you need some original content to start with. If you're a blogger, you could grab a list of common posts you've already written and combine those. (For an example of an eBook I did with all Holiday posts, click here.) Once you have your content, you...
