One of the little markets we frequent for certain delicacies and wines is Tri-County Produce Co-op on Milpas Street in Santa Barbara.  It is the only grocery store within walking distance to the beach, and you get a great view as you check out.  They have a wonderful strategy where everyone wins.  If you bring your own bag for your purchases, you are given a ticket that is worth .05cents, and then you can deposit in one of the 8 different charities represented on the wall.  They started this last year, and they have already donated $8938.85.  Everyone wins, the environment, the charities and the store for giving their customers a reason to support them, because of their commitment to the community WATCH VIDEOS-  Buzz-Worthy Luxury Real Estate Websites  Personal Branding Case Studies   ...

One of our favorite places for Sunday breakfast is at the East Beach Grill located on the beach. The restaurant is housed in an older Spanish style building on the beach and the tile detais are exquisite. The food is great and fresh. The pancakes are wonderful and locals swear by the wheat germ ones with fresh strawberries or blueberries.  You order at the counter and a waiter/waitress brings your order.  It is a wonderful place to watch the surf and people.  We enjoyed an omelette and several cups of Peet's coffee.  It was a great way to start the morning.  So if you find yourself in Santa Barbara don't miss this quintessential Santa Barbara Landmark at 1188 East Cabrillo Boulevard Santa Barbara,  805-965-8805. Last evening as we turned on the TV, we heard that Guy Fieri of the Food Network was going to visit a diner in Santa Barbara.  That caught our attention.  So we suffered through what seemed to be interminable commercials and found out he was reviewing Norton's for their famous pastrami.  We had driven by it many times on our way to the FedEX store.  So we watched Guy eating pastrami with local Santa Barbara celebriites and everyone was praising the pastrami...Could it be we wondered, that we have a deli that serves pastrami and rivals our favorite place in Beverly Hills? So today, we went on a mission to answer the question .  We opted for the location closest to our home, it is bascially a stand, unlike the original which is a deli cafe.  This is Norton;s second location and it is sit...

Signs of spring have arrived in Santa Barbara.  When we are up early, we often decide to go out for breakfast.  One of our favorite places is right on the Beach.  On a beautiful day, we always take our guests to experience the quintessential Santa Barbara atmosphere. The restaurant is called the East Beach Grill.  With one of the best views of the ocean it is a tranquil place with a varied menu, reasonable prices and good food, and good coffee (Peet's).  You walk in, order what you want and pick a seat.  We like their pancakes.  It is fun to sit and watch the joggers, walkers, bikers, and various birds who wait for a crumb or two. Santa Barbara has a zoo with 500 animals on 30 acres overlooking the ocean.  As one drives down towards the ocean, past the bird reserve, you can catch a glimpse of our giraffe Audrey who arrived from Los Angeles in March of last year.  Unbeknownst to the zoo keepers, she was five months pregnant,  Last month she gave birth to a healthy, 5 foot, 9 inches 106 pound giraffe son named Daniel. According to zoo director Nancy Mc Toldrige: "In addition to giraffe’s natural growth, it is likely a genetic defense strategy for animal mothers not to look pregnant to keep predators from singling them out." Director of Animal Programs Sheri Horiszny said : "Nothing in her records indicated that Los Angeles Zoo keepers had ever seen their male showing interest in her or attempting to breed her." Au...
