The New Hope Community Church, a congregation of 100 members, saw a need to feed their surrounding South Sacramento neighborhood in which one in three live below the poverty line. They started a program in 2007 called The Gift of Groceries. They feed about 300 families every week. Since they began, they have supplied over eight million pounds of food to 500,000 people. They have done it by partnering with the Sacramento Food Bank, Raley's Grocery Store and Lifepointe Church members. They gave over one million pounds of food to over 48,000 people last year alone.
