October 18, 2020It Was a Perfect Day in LA Those who are not fond of LA might wonder about any day being perfect. I say it depends on your perspective and attitude. Our day started out in Carlsbad with a rather murky sunrise over our canyon. "The secret to a good morning is to watch the sunrise with an open heart" ~ Anthony T. Hicks The trip to LA takes about 90 minutes these days - while there is plenty of traffic, with the pandemic it's been minus the major slowdowns in recent months - and we can easily do a roundtrip in a day. There have been times in the past where one way could be 2 1/2 to 3 hrs. with accidents and volume.  The day was perfect - gorgeous weather in the upper 70s, no wind at the beach, and several hours spent with our 2 daughters, their husbands, and the 4 grandkids...

Wordless Wednesday: Looking Forward to This View Again Some Day  Like many businesses, one of our favorite places in West LA for a night getaway, the Inn at Playa del Rey in Playa del Rey, a charming beach town, was shuttered until recently.  They are open for business again, as many hotels are, and offering special rates since some of their standard amenities that are normally part of your stay - a sumptuous breakfast in their attractive dining room and a daily wine and hors d'oeuvres happy hour - have been paused due to Covid-19. The views from our favorite room - top floor at the end - are very special, looking out over the Ballona Wetlands preserve to Marina del Rey, the Hollywood Hills, and north along the coast beyond Santa Monica to Malibu. I'm not quite ready for a hotel stay, t...

Throwback Thursday: The Inn at Playa Del Rey - A Revisit  The Inn at Playa Del Rey outside Los Angeles, in the "Silicon Beach" area, is one of our favorite places to visit and step away from daily life and enjoy a quaint little beach town. We go every year so they know us, and we love the casual, yet upscale, environment, and the fact that the Inn reminds us of New England. We always stay in the same suite on the top floor with wonderful views of the Balona Wetlands and bird life, and Marina Del Rey, West Los Angeles, and the mountains in the distance. Since we are heading that way very soon, it was time to enjoy some memories and start thinking of good times ahead...and a dinner reservation in town!

Throwback Thursday: Barefootin' in Playa del Rey  I'm a big fan of going barefoot, which I can enjoy pretty much year-round here in SoCal, even in the winter, although sometimes socks are needed. I stumbled across this photo from our Valentine's Day 2014 stay at one of our favorite places, the Inn at Playa del Rey, a cool beach town west of Culver City near LA (and adjacent to the area known as Silicon Beach). If you can get past my feet, the view is pretty nice! That's Marina del Rey off in the distance beyond the Bellona Wetlands, and there are views for miles up the coast past Malibu and east to the mountains surrounding LA. We have been a bunch of times to this charming Inn that reminds us of New England and the owners now know us. We always stay in the same suite on the top floor w...

Our Visit to the Inn at Playa Del Rey CA  We enjoy an annual visit to the charming Inn at Playa del Rey in the beach community of Playa del Rey, just south of Marina del Rey and west of Culver City in the greater Los Angeles area.   The Inn at Playa del Rey is a very special place for us, a bed and breakfast we discovered perhaps 6 years ago. We have celebrated special occasions there, but in recent years it’s become our tradition in in mid-January.    It’s especially meaningful given how much it reminds us of a Cape Cod Massachusetts inn and the Wellfleet area where we had our beach house. The Inn offers wonderful views of the Ballona Wetlands (some day we’ll do one of the tours), and with Playa del Rey beach homes and the boats moored at Marina del Rey in the distance, the Inn at Play...

The Inn at Playa Del Rey The Inn at Playa Del Rey is one of our favorites for an adult overnight. Located in Playa Del Rey (not to be confused with nearby Playa Vista, nicknamed "Silicon Beach"), the Inn is a charming 21-room New England-style B and B on Culver Boulevard less than a mile from the beach and facing the beautiful Ballona Wetlands, a protected area of 3500 acres filled with bird life.  Our favorite room on the top floor (3rd) has spectacular views of the wetlands, and looking beyond to Marina Del Rey, and all of West LA including San Monica. The mountains beyond the city stretch from north of Malibu to the Hollywood Hills and further east to the snow-capped mountains east of downtown LA.  Each room is unique in style, and the marina/wetlands view rooms and suites offer fire...

A Fine Dining Experience at Caffé Pinguini in Playa Del Rey CA We recently spent the night at a favorite inn in the LA area, the Inn at Playa del Rey, our 4th stay in as many years. Of course a nice dinner was part of the plan and a little research yielded some pretty good recommendations  for  Caffé Pinguini (yes, there ARE 2 ffs in the spelling) right down the street close to the beach. As a foodie, a great dining experience for me comes from the totality of the food, service, ambiance, and value (I’ve had what I consider great dining experiences for $25 as well as for hundreds of dollars). I had high hopes!  And being a lover of Italian food, Caffé Pinguini sounded ideal. And it was. We were seated outside on the patio under a palm tree with the moon above, and with our chilly wintry...

The Inn at Playa Del Rey CA is A Charming Getaway at the Beach in LA We spent last night at one of our favorite inns in SoCal for the weekend - The Inn at Playa Del Rey in Playa Del Rey CA, just west of Culver City at the beach. The Inn at Playa del Rey is a very special place. We’ve spent several nights there, celebrating special occasions - check out the view from our room below! Reminiscent of a Cape Cod Massachusetts inn, with wonderful views of the Ballona Wetlands, and with Playa Del Rey beach homes and the boats moored at Marina Del Rey in the distance, the Inn at Playa Del Rey is a step back in time.   It’s where relaxation immediately sets in and it’s like being a guest in a private home. There is no doubt you are immersed in a small Southern California beach community, with al...

Playa Del Rey is a highly desired beachside community in the Westside. This coastal community is bordered by Marina Del Rey and Ballona Creek to the north, Play Vista to the northeast, Westchester to the east, the Pacific Ocean to the west and El Segundo to the south.  It’s convenient location affords you the opportunity to live in a coastal community and still be minutes to all that the Westside of Los Angeles, California has to offer. If you are in the market to purchase a condo in Playa Del Rey, we have two great options; a 1 bedroom, 1 bath and a 2 bedroom, 2 bath. Both units are located in the Cross Creek Village complex, which offers numerous amenities and resort-style living.  There are 2 pools, tennis & sport courts, a playground, fitness room, his/hers saunas and an on-site d...

Have you heard of the 4th Annual Allstate Life Insurance 13.1mile Marathon? Well in all fairness I have never heard of it. For the past two days I noticed these signs that were saying that Via Marina (near our home) will be shut down from 07:00am to 10:30am. So I said I wonder why… As I started researching I realized it was not the Los Angeles Marathon, since that is usually in March, hence I wondered what it could be. Turns out The Allstate Life Insurance Los Angeles 13.1 mile run goes from the Venice Boardwalk at Rose Ave and ends at Dockweiler Beach in Playa del Rey. They are anticipating 4,000 runners and of course a post race party, live music, food and refreshments at the finish line. The registration is open unlike the Boston Marathon, where world class runners compete, this soun...

The Inn at Playa Del Rey – A Charming Getaway at the Beach in Los Angeles The Inn at Playa Del Rey in Playa Del Rey CA near Los Angeles is a real find.  I know, because I just spent the night there for an anniversary celebration.  Reminiscent of a Cape Cod inn, with wonderful views of the Ballona Wetlands, and with Playa Del Rey beach homes and the boats moored at Marina Del Rey in the distance, the Inn at Playa Del Rey was a step back in time, where relaxation immediately sets in upon entering and you feel more like a guest in a private home. There is no doubt you are emersed in a small Southern California beach community, with all the sights, sounds and smells (the ocean, and lots of restaurants) one would expect. The beach itself is just a few blocks away, as is the 26-mile South Bea...

Playa Del Rey, CA Condominium Market Report for December 2011 & january 2012  It was brought to my attention that I did not do a Market Report for the month of December. For some reason it was in draft mode all this time on my computer. Anyway with my apologies you will find both Months’ numbers:   December 2011: Active properties on the Market were 48 in Playa Del Rey, CA; Accepting Backup Offers were 16; on Hold Status 1; Pending i.e.: waiting to close 7; Sold 7!   January 2012:     Active properties on the Market were 42 in Playa Del Rey, CA; Accepting Backup Offers were    7;   on Hold Status 1; Pending i.e.: waiting to close 6; Sold 12!   Overall this is a good sign that the Sales have increased month over month. Even though there are fewer properties on the market the buyers have...

The Playa Del Rey Condominium Market Report for the Month of October 2011 The Global Economic volatility continues and Europe’s problems are visiting every part of the world. The roller coaster ride of will China bail out Europe or not and will Greece take the offer of saving their as well as the rest of the Global economies or will they turn it down? It was a busy month for all. Hence if you are an investor would you want to invest in Europe and specifically Greece? The answer is clear to me, if you are an investor you need to do your homework, since there is a very fertile ground right now for the Bernie Madoff’s style Ponzi schemes.   Once you do your Homework, the answer will be clear and you will discover that this is a good time to buy Real Estate in the greater Los Angeles area. ...

The Playa Del Rey Condominium Market Report for the month of September 2011 Every month as I am about to write my Condominium Market Reports, I am a bit nervous and wondering how the particular pocket of the  area fared, since I am unable to gage the activity based on the news media’ s observations. I am confident based on the activities of the past couple of months that we are heading in the right direction. Interest rates are at an all time low and the Stock Market has been a Roller Coaster Ride, hence a perfect recipe to go to the safer area i.e.: Real Estate Investing. From my personal observations I am still getting a lot of inquiries from foreign buyers, hence to me this is an indication that the devalued Dollar and the low Prices is still a fantastic opportunity to buy investment...

The Playa Del Rey, CA Condominium Market Report for the month of August, 2011 Hope everyone had a relaxing Labor Day Weekend and are ready to get back to work and finish the year strong. The month of August had a lot of ups and downs on the World Economic as well as the World Political fronts. Europe has been in turmoil and that has affected the Stock Markets throughout the world as well as the Momar Ghadafi situation in Libya has put people on the cautious side. Currently there are 49 Active Condominiums on the Market available for purchase. The least expensive one is a One Bedroom One bath Condominium of approximately 720 square feet of living space for the asking price of $189,000. At the other extreme, the most expensive Luxury Ocean view Condominium is a three bedroom and three and...

Playa Del Rey, CA Condominium Market Report for June 2011 The month of June was very active for me, many listing appointments, and a lot of viewing of my listings. Hence I am a bit late with my Market Report. As most of you who read my Market Reports consistently will notice that my focus is always on the Trends. I have been reading a great deal about higher interest rates being on the horizon. This is based on the premise that, the Federal Reserve's second round of quantitative easing (QE2 that it is referred to) has ended with the close of the month of June. The withdrawal of this support will leave the economy to stand on its own without any stimulus. Hence this could drive up Treasury rates. Hence this will potentially drive up interest rates. Based on this major indicator I am look...

Playa Del Rey, CA Condominium Market Report for May 2011 As most of you who read my post consistently, know I am a firm believer that you have to look at a Real Estate Market Report not just as a snap shot of the previous months activities, but rather as what the Trend is. If we observe and monitor the trend, than we can make educated predictions of activity for the near future of the Real Estate activity in a particular pocket. Unfortunately there are events that are beyond our control that will impact the local Real Estate activity. Last month there was a slowdown of the growth in the US Economy. A large part can be attributed to the earthquake in Japan, which created a shortage of parts and had a global as well as a local impact. Then there was a huge rise in the oil prices, which ca...
