The Beach at Lake Wildwood in Penn Valley, CA. Lake Wildwood is a private country club in Penn Valley, which is about 10 miles west of Grass valley - part of the gold rush history in Northern California. This is a video to show you what the beach is like at Lake Wildwood.  It is a perfect spot to enjoy the day under a shady umbrella, and just gaze at the boats on the lake. You can enjoy a picnic lunch, or even barbecue. The swimming pool is right there, or you can go swimming in the protected area in the lake. In this Part II of the Lake Wildwood Country Club in Penn Valley, I will feature Commodore Park, one of the many parks that are located surrounding the 300 acre lake. If you didn't read Part I, Lake Wildwood is a man-made lake, the last of its kind, which is located about 10 miles west of Grass Valley.  Grass Valley and the surrounding area is known for being at the hub of gold mining activity in the Sierra Nevadas in the 1850s.  The area is strikingly beautiful, located nearly equidistant between the state capitol of Sacramento and Lake Tahoe.   Video of Barrel Tasting Day for Red Wines at Pilot Peak Winery, March 27, 2010. Pilot Peak Winery held its annual Barrel Tasting event this weekend, March 27 and March 28.  They brought out about 10 barrels of various red wines, including Zinfandel, Syrah, Primitivo, Cabernet Franc, and several others.  It was fun having them draw out the wines from a long syringe directly from the barrels.  They also offered a nice spread of food, and chocolate tasting. The best part was everything was free.  Pilot Peak Winery has ample grounds for entertaining, with three levels and many tables that can accommodate hundreds of people. Hi Folks, As many of you know, I am a big fan of gardening. I find much peace in growing a variety of plants, fruits, vegetables, trees and native plants too.  I just had the greatest chance encounter today and I wanted to share it with you.  I bought a Hydrofarm Jump Start Grow System Kit in 2008 to start getting ahead of the game -- that is, with my finicky spring warm ups and freezes here in Grass Valley.  Well, I wasnt all that scientific about it at the time, but I was able to do admirably with a number of mellon and cantaloupe varieties during the 2009 growing season and this year -- during the offseason . . .winter! . . .   Here is a 37 second video of a beautiful mid-winter sunrise at Lake Wildwood, CA.  Lake Wildwood is in the Sierra Nevadas, about 1300 feet elevation, approximately mid-way between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe.    Be sure and notice the reflection of the sunrise color in the lake itself. Perhaps the only thing more amazing than this sunrise is the fact that I was up to capture it.   ;-)     01/31/2010

A few nights ago I looked out my backyard from my balcony at Lake Wildwood in Northern California and saw what to me was the biggest rainbow I have ever seen. Since rainbows often don't last long, I rushed to get my video camera and captured the size of this. Fortunately I was able to capture this just a few minutes before it was gone. 01/09/2010
