Palos Verdes homes owners with school aged children are working on finalizing their plans to start the 2020-2021 school year on August 26, 2020. Many students have chosen for the Hybrid Learning Models, but quite a few have signed up for the Distance Learning Academy. The schools strict policies for opening, have put many families in a bind. Some have reached out for small pod learning groups so that the children can study with other children in a safe environment.  However, there are not enough groups to satisfy the demand. Having learning pods allows the parents time to work from home or return to their jobs.Elite Dance Studio is offering a school setting where children bring their laptops and participate in their zoom classes for school, then for physical education they can dance, or...

Palos Verdes homes owners are having to get creative these days looking for fun outdoor opportunities for their children to enjoy. Summer is a great time to try new things, but this summer has added some challenges what we normally enjoy. One great event that you may want to consider for the whole family is a trail ride in Palos Verdes. Whether its going through the canyons or along Palos Verdes Drive North, now is the time to take that ride and enjoy our wonderful summer weather.  You also get a different view of nature sitting on top of a horse and riding through our special areas.  Our local Palos Verdes Stables offer many different type of equestrian activities.  You can enjoy pony camps, trail rides, and even private or group lessons. On the trail ride you will be paired with one of...

Palos Verdes AYSO Soccer (Region 10) is changing its registration process a bit. If you have already registered, you are all set. If you haven’t registered yet, when you will register it will be under a “waitlist” with no requirement to pay until a start date has been determined. After the start date has been set, you will receive an email asking you to “finish” registering your child by submitting your payment. This process allows you to sign up your child without actually paying yet and allows you to make your final decision closer to the actual start date. The home page at http://ayso.bluesombrero.com/region10 will show the division and age slots. When it is determined that play can begin, AYSO ‘s goal is that they will have all protocols in place. The guidelines are being developed b...

Palos Verdes home owners are lucky that we have some of the cleanest beaches in California for our families to enjoy.  Earlier this year, the beaches were closed because of the Coronavirus and it truly effected our local residents. Recently, we have been able to enjoy our beautiful beaches but they will be closed for this weekend. Every year the beach water is reported through the Heal the Bay reporting system. Once again Heal the Bay has reported that Palos Verdes beaches and coves are in the current top Honor Roll 2019-2020 list for California.  This means that our local waters have received grades of A & A+ during the summer dry part of the year.  Because of the wet weather this year, several of our beaches received B reports because of trail outlets, but once again year round wet w...

Point Vicente Interpretive Center had to stop its whale counting this year in March because of the corona virus. This famous landmark gives Palos Verdes homes owners a local center where they can go and watch these massive mammals off our coastline.   The season officially started on December 1, 2019, with most of the whales traveling south to Baja.  To see these magnificent creatures, there are several different local options to choose from.  Point Vicente Interpretive Center located at 31501 Palos Verdes Drive South, Rancho Palos Verdes, welcomes visitors to this premier whale watching site for viewing (bring binoculars).  Currently the park grounds are open, as well as the restrooms and walking trails. The museum and gift store are closed at this time due to the virus. For more info...

Palos Verdes business owners are hoping that as businesses start to open, you remember to continue to help our community by “Shopping Local First.” The Palos Verdes Peninsula Chamber of Commerce is reminding us of its “Local First” initiative to assist our local economy and is showing Palos Verdes homes owners all the benefits that our community receives by supporting local businesses.  We have been staying “safer at home” for several months, and are now able to get out and run our own errands as we did in the past.  However, we must remember that our local restaurants, retail stores, dance studios, music stores and gyms have seen a tremendous downside recently.  As we look around the local shopping centers now, retail stores have re-opened up in the shopping centers and some restauran...
