Los Angeles Haunted Hayride Takes place in Los Feliz this Year The Los Angeles Haunted Hayride was a favorite Halloween attraction last year.  It has moved from its previous location at Kng Gillette Ranch in Calabasa to our own Griffith Park in Los Feliz. That's right,  Griffith Park's Old Zoo was chosen for the new location for the Haunted Hayride- close to home and perfect for the right ambiance!. Like last year, a tractor will pull a trailer full of visitors through a variety of scary haunts, populated by a mixed back of loonies, monster and other menaces.  Since riders are at the mercy of the tractor driver, they are unable to avoid or run from the monsters, adding to the scare factor. This year the makeup is extraordinarily good and ghoulish! When you are done with the Haunted Hayr...

Today, I read an ActiveRain post on whether or not we are overexposed by social media--particularly Facebook Places and other such "check-in" sites (Foursquare). There is no doubt in my mind that we ARE certainly overexposed, and there is an increasingly less indelible line between my public and private persona. "Public" and "Private" are two words which have extraordinary meaning in our household. You may recall from your childhood a time when there was a difference in how you should behave "in public"? This idea is fading from common memory--though I secretly think we all know it when there is a bratty kid running around the grocery store, or when there are people sitting next to you at the restaurant talking about things in such a crude or vulgar way that it makes you uncomfortable. ...

As a Real Estate Sales Professional, I spend a lot of time thinking about my service and what I can do to make my clients understand and absorb the victories of the real estate sales and purchase process. I think about setting expectations, and one of my first questions when interviewing buyers is, "What do you expect from your agent?" Frequently the answer is "honesty," sometimes "patience," and most often, "responsiveness." I'm all of these three things. But I realized today that rarely do I tell clients what I expect of them, and I think it might be a useful exercise to do so. Perhaps a little more "front-end" communication will clear the way for a smoother transaction. Specifically: 1. A good client takes advice--from their trusted Realtor. You either trust me or you don't. Sometime...

Here is another sunset picture taken from one of the many vistas available to the public in Griffith Park.  I just want to drive home the point that LA has some of the best sunsets anywhere in the world.   Every sunset is special.  I want to catalogue them the best I can, much like a devoted parent would take picture after picture of their children.  I'll try not to bore you with pictures of my "kids" but you should know that LA is a place where you can see sights like this on a daily basis.  I like living in a place where it is easy to be reminded that there are bigger things than myself.

Laughlin Park- an exclusive, gated community in Los Feliz Laughlin Park is an exclusive, gated community in Los Feliz that was rated by Los Angeles Magazine as one of the "top five" neighborhoods of Los Angeles.  Established in 1905, the enclave is secure behind five gates between Los Feliz Blvd and Franklin Avenue on the Western edge of Los Feliz. Laughlin Park was once home to many of Hollywood's rich and famous including W.C. Fields, Charlie Chaplain and Cecil B. DeMille. DeillMe's villa was built by developer Homer Laughlin who's intention was to build a neighborhood of 40 villas.  Subsequent lot divisions have brought that number to 60 homes. DeMille's villa was built on the largest, highest lot in Laughlin Park providing majestic panoramic views. Today many well-known celebrities ...

The Oaks- Tree studded enclave in the hills of Los Feliz The oaks is a neighborhood of hillside homes between Beachwood Canyon and Griffith Park bounded by  Fern Dell Drive on the east and Foothill Drive to the south. The area got its name due to the majority of the neighborhood street names have the word "Oak" in them such as "Spreading Oak", "Live Oak", "Red Oak".  This neighborhood has a feeling of privacy and seclusion with its winding, hilly, tree lined streets. Many homes have canyon and city views all the way to the ocean. The Oaks offers a mix of architectural styles with a large number of mid-century and traditional style homes built in the 1960's as well as 20's and 30's Mediterraneans with lots of square footage, big yards and views for miles. If you don't know your way aroun...

You are looking at one of the plush leather booths inside the Dresden restaurant.  This place is one of my favorites.  You can come dressed casual or in your finest formal wear and feel right at home.  The circa 1960's decor is still in tact and as kitschy as ever. The food is great and comes at a bargain.  I usually get the Chateaubriand which would definitely be part of my last meal should I ever end up on Death Row, which I won't.  I just wanted to make the point that the food is good here, real good.  In fact, I may need to go there tonight.  Just thinking about it is making my mouth water.     They also have a very reasonable wine list.  The "mark-up" is no where near what you would find at a lot of restaurants in LA. According to the wait staff, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are...

Franklin Hills, an enchanting mix of 1920s' to mid-century homes. Most people have heard of Los Feliz CA, but not everyone is familiar with Franklin Hills, an enchanting mix of 1920s'to mid-century homes. This historic neighborhood is located east of the Village of Los Feliz and is filled with hillside homes with views in every direction.  The Shakespeare Bridge serves as a gateway to Franklin Hills along Franklin Avenue between Talmadge Avenue and St George Streets. Originally build in 1926, the Gothic style bridge was designated as Historic-Cultural Monument #126 in 1974. After the Northridge earthquake, the bridge was retrofitted but rebuilt in a way to preserve its historic appearance. Franklin Hills is a unique community which is particularly pedestrian friendly, at least if you'r...

Ah sunsets.  So relaxing, so mesmerizing.  We are looking out towards the pacific ocean and the "West Side" of LA.  I'm sure that is obvious to anyone who realizes that the sun does in fact set in the west.  Well, I just like to be thorough.  Anyway, I was once again right smack dab in the middle of Griffith Park witnessing this awesome event.

We are looking at the high country of the Angeles National Forest.  This photo was taken from the roof of the Griffith Observatory which, as you can probably tell from my previous posts, is a great place to gaze out upon some pretty amazing views.  You can also see a couple of different Griffith Park trails winding up the mountains in the foreground.  There are also lots of trails in the mountains in the background, but you can't really see them from here.  I would't recommend squinting that hard.

This is a post storm picture.  This particular day was filled with thunder, lightning and heavy rain but ended with sights like this.  While this was going on in LA the east coast was bogged down with blizzard conditions.  It's nice to have a robust storm here every once in a while, it makes us feel tough.  I will admit that most of the time the weather here is "wimpy" compared to many other places.
