In 1978 a small group of people recognized that life was becoming increasingly international. Because they wanted their children to be prepared to function well in that environment, they wanted a school that would provide the necessary education. Thus, the Lycee International de Los Angeles was founded. It opened in a small house in Van Nuys with only seven students. Now the school has grown to five campuses with more than 900 students with the main campus in the Franklin Hills area of Los Feliz. It has also earned an enviable reputation. Graduates are readily accepted in both American and French universities – and at universities around the world. Children can begin their schooling here in kindergarter and continue with the Lycee up through highschool graduation. Because several of the...

Should I Stage My Home When I Sell It? I felt compelled to write about Home Staging because of an experience I had over the weekend.  I was out previewing property, and I went to a  home that was having an Open House.  I'll not divulge where the home was - because what I have to say is not very flattering.  I digress. This home I saw was a multi-million dollar house in a very good area of town.  It was newly constructed (in the sense it was built within the last couple years) and had all the bells and whistles as far as design goes today.  Each bedroom was en-suite, the surfaces were all the latest trends... beautiful modern tile in the bathrooms, amazing stone counters in the kitchen, wonderful hardwood floors.  You get the picture. However - something was very disconcerting and I coul...

Ask Judy Oroshnik: A Question About Foreclosures A buyer asks:  My husband and I were wondering if there are perhaps ways to be more aggressive with foreclosures and bank owned properties. I've found a website that lists properties that are in various states of distress, from pre-forelosure to impending auction, etc. Are these sights viable? . Judy says:  There is no one easy answer to your question about distressed properties, etc.  First, as far as properties that have already gone back to the bank (or to an investor) at a trustee sale, those are all listed in the MLS as conventional sales. The pre-foreclosure properties are ones that have received an NOD (notice of default) and are in some state of limbo.  They are all owners who are at least 90 days in arrears--for various reasons. ...
