The Arrowhead Lake Association is asking residents and guests to refrain from bringing in firewood from other areas. Lake Arrowhead is declaring a " Buy It Where You Burn It " to reduce and/or eliminate pests that are destroying our forest. There are two new pests that are spreading and the transportation of firewood from infested areas are bringing these pests into our beautiful forest. The first pest is a voracious beetle named Gold-Spotted Soak Borer and this beetle has already begun killing oak trees in San Diego County. They have also been found in the North Riverside County community of Idyllwild. Infested areas are reporting oak mortality of 65 to 100% and more than 1 million acres of oak trees have been lost in Southern California.   The second new pest is the Polyphagous Shot H...

Footprints in history are not made sitting down. This is a quote that I have grown to love. I am not sure where the saying originated from, but I've seen it on a plaque and it really resonated with me. There are so many ways that one can look at this saying and apply it to life. Whether in your personal life or in business. I've learned that sometimes the things we don't want to do are in fact the things that we NEED to do. Call it comfort or complacent, we get into a groove and adopt the attitude of " Not fixing what isn't broken ". While this may be true in some cases, this very saying can also leave us stuck in the same position we are in. Take a water bottle for example. There are hundreds if not thousands of different versions of a apparatus that we stick water in. Some are tall, s...

I know that renting a home seems convenient and there are some circumstances where it may be warranted, but have you thought about all of the downfalls of renting a home and then the upside of purchasing a home ? First, while many rentals come with lease agreements, often times owners simply do not renew the lease the longer the tenant stays. Whether an oversight or simply just not worried about it, not having a signed lease each year can leave you vulnerable to an owner sending you written notice to vacate because you are now on a month to month basis. It is important to check the laws in your state and determine how much notice a landlord must give and if your lease automatically rolls over and for what duration of time. Whether you are year to year or month to month, at the end of th...

Significant weather events can leave us vulnerable. From snow and ice storms to hurricanes and tornadoes to thunderstorms. Power outages are not only inconvenient, but they can also be detrimental to ones well being. The sick and/or elderly who require heat, air conditioning, oxygen and the like are the most vulnerable. Storms can come out of nowhere and no-one can guarantee you will not be without power.  A whole house generator has many benefits. First, it can increase the resale value of your home. In 2014 there was a report published by Remodeling Magazine that indicated installing a standby generator can provide up to a 150% return on your investment. So, if we break down the numbers this would mean that if you spent $12,000 installing a generator your home value may increase up to...

Thanksgiving is a blur because of the winter storm we received here in Lake Arrowhead, but there is nothing like a white Christmas. Well, almost. Our winter storm began late Christmas Day and is finally winding down some. We definitely got flocked again with power outages and business closings (and roads too). Still, it's a beautiful site here in Lake Arrowhead as you peek out the windows and see the branches of pines covered in snow. Actually, everything is covered in snow.  Here in the mountains of Lake Arrowhead, we definitely get its fair share of snow. It is part of the beauty of the four seasons here. Throughout the winter you get to enjoy the brilliance of snow covered trees and mountains and in the fall you get to experience the brilliant colors of autumn as the leaves turn colo...

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, " What are you doing?" The youth replied, " Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them back, they'll die."  "Son," the man said, " don't you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can't make a difference!" After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said..." I made a difference for that one. "  We can all make a difference when we choose kindness, a hand up, a smile, a wink, a nod, and something as simple as holding a door open for someone. We can get o...

From It's A Wonderful Life to decking the halls and decorating my office desk, it's beginning to look and feel a lot like Christmas! Getting into the Christmas spirit is hard for some people. The hassle of pulling out the tree, the tangled lights and ornaments, but in the end, when it's all up just glistening back at you, it becomes a beautiful and magical thing. Every ornament seems to tell a story. The memories etched in every piece of glass or handmade bobble hanging from the tree. Years of Christmas past with the fingerprints and footprints of children and grandchildren and sometimes even your kitty sitting under the tree ( hopefully not IN the tree).  With every ornament hung you get to reminisce about the past. Especially those ornaments made in school by your children. Every year...
