Now that winter is over, at least in Southern California, thought turns to sun and sand...or in this case Surf and Sand Hotel. As a Lagunite from way back, I have been a Surf and Sand aficionado my entire adult life. Look at the view above and it's clear why that is. But it's not just the table by the ocean that brings me back. Tourists would gravitate towards this kind of view, but as a local, we also need great food and service to keep us coming back. The Surf and Sand Splashes Bar and Restaurant does not disappoint.  Last week, I headed to Splashes to celebrate my 20th Wedding Anniversary, I was married there in 1995. Whale Watching in Newport Beach, CA If you would like to go whale watching, this is the season to consider going out on a boat to see these majestic creatures. Newport Landing is in Newport Beach and has boats which go out several times a day to see these beautiful whales. December through April is the season for Gray Whales, and it is very common to see them along their migration. May through November provides the opportunity to see Blue Whales, and these are the whales which can get up to 80 feet. That is impressive, especially if the boat you are on is not that long.
