I dug a small hole, the earth still soft from the recent rain, and dropped in the small figurine. Upside down, the rear of the house, facing the house, 3' from the wall, 12" deep. Those were the instructions ... now it's up to St. Joseph. It's amazing the lengths we Realtors will go to in an effort to sell a home. I purchased several St. Joseph home selling kits from The King's House in Scottsdale, Az. The owner of this family business, Bob Weflen, said that he has sold nearly 600 of these St. Joseph kits in the last 3 months. He mentioned that a friend of his in Pittsburgh has sold over 150 in less than a week. I'm suggesting that we forget home sales figures, forget inventory levels, forget the charts and look to St Joseph as an indicator of the kind of real estate market we are in. I...

The real estate market has got quite a few people scratching theirs heads these days. Buyers want to get it for nothing and sellers want top dollar. Just to add more to the itchy heads, the median price of Orange County homes actually rose 0.4% in June (according to DataQuick Information Systems) to $645,000, though sales were actually down compared to 1 year ago. The serious buyers & sellers are still there. relocations due to jobs or family crisis and very evident in this market. The buyers who were qualified to buy through those bargain brokers are having problems qualifying with the  "legitimate lenders."The subprime lenders are all but gone beacuse buyers getting their loans from these lenders could not afford their mortgage payments and the respective banks foreclosed. According to recent FBI statistics released on Monday June 4th, 2007, the City of Irvine was once again named the safest city in America, compared to other cities that had a population of 100,000 or more.  Irvine has held that title now for three straight years in a row.  According to the study, Irvine had a 6% reduction in total crimes in 2006 compared to 2005, as well as a 17% decrease in violent crimes.   As you can see, I'm very proud of my city... safety is definitely one of the reasons why I live here, along with the variety of cultures, business opportunities, educational opportunities, and of course, fantastic real estate! For your information, four other cities in California made the Top 10 list of safest cities in the nation:  Sunnyvale came in at #5, Thousand Oaks came in at ...

Hey Irvine person!  I did not know this until my dear hubby went through the process of getting those free light bulbs the city was offering.  Surprise, surprise, there wasn't a long line to get them!  What was a surprise for me is that those compact fluorescent light bulbs that last soooo long contain a small amount of mercury.  Mercury is very dangerous when it touches your skin or if you eat it.  So, proper disposal of these kind of light bulbs (so we don't have mercury added to our landfills) is to take them to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility (yes, it's the same place where you drop off all your used batteries, electronics, used motor oil from your car and unused househould chemicals).  If the bulb is broken, please use gloves to clean up the broken pieces and bring both the ...

Irvine has a program called CERT -- Community Emergency Response Team which I just joined three weeks ago.  In the case of a major disaster or emergency to hit the city, the first responders (police people, firemen and women, doctors, EMTs, etc.) would be overwhelmed, especially with all of the growth Irvine has faced over the past ten years.  With the trained folks all up in arms, who's left to deal with everything else?  That would be CERT. CERT is composed of volunteers, who either live or work in Irvine (those of you in other cities can check out your city's emergency management group to see if something similar exists).  CERT is sponsored by the Irvine Police Association and the Orange County Fire Authority.  These classes have been occuring since 2000, and I am part of class #15. ...
