This past weekend in Imperial Beach saw tens of thousands of people invade the Imperial Beach pier and sands for the 30th U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition. Along with lots of vendors selling unusual wares, there were many more vendors selling fair-style food, of which two of my favorites are the Oriental shishkabobs and the grilled corn on the cob. I walked through the vendor and food area once (and got a shishkabob and some grilled corn on the cob for lunch) and walked through the competition area three times, twice to see the sandcastles as they were being built, and then once to see the completed products. The Imperial Beach Sandcastle Competition is the largest sandcastle building competition in the United States. This festival encompasses a full weekend including a street festival, live music and entertainment. All events are free to the public, except for the Sandcastle Ball. The 25th Annual US Open Sandcastle Competition was held in Imperial Beach in July 2005. Master and amateur sand carving teams from throughout the U.S. and Canada competed for more than $21,000 in cash prizes. San Diego is full of good-old-fashion-summer-fun.  The 27th ANNUAL U.S. OPEN SANDCASTLE COMPETITION in Imperial Beach, California will be held on Sunday July 13, 2008 with professional and amateur sand carving teams competing in the largest sand castle building contest for more than $22,000 in cash prizes. Imperial Beach Real Estate Prices Fall Again in 2008Imperial Beach 91932 in South Bay San Diego had another drop in real estate prices in January 2008. The home prices dropped 6.8% from January 2007 to January 2008. The peak year of 2005 had a median home price of $515,000.
