Restoring a legend - The Hollywood Palladium After a $20-million overhaul, the Hollywood Palladium shines again. “We ripped the roof off the joint, literally,” said Rick Mueller, president of California operations for Live Nation, the concert promotion company that signed a 20-year lease and is handling the lion’s share of renovation costs. “Our entire goal is to bring the building back to what it was like that first night but also to make it modern.” For anyone who’s been paying attention during the past few years, Hollywood is happenin’ again. You’ve got state-of-the-art theaters and concert venues, world class shopping, fabulous restaurants, and hip places to live. I recently posted about a fun event at The Hollywood that involved a graffiti covered parking garage and wedding gowns…....

I love a good farmer's market any time. There's something about being in the open air, perusing stalls of fresh produce and other goods produced by local artisans - breads cheeses, jams an jellies, honey, freshly made tamales (a common item in our Southern California farmer's markets) and so much more.. The produce is always so much fresher than what you get in the stores, and often at a better price, but not always. Who cares?! The Hollywood Farmer's Market is a real treat, perhaps more so because of the wide array of organic foods and places to grab a snack, AND the location. Markets in the city have such a different feel, perhaps more so because of the contrast between city life and farm stands clustered along normally crowded streets. Hollywood is such a famous community, being know...

Yesterday was a very cool day. I had lunch with Loni Anderson at the famed Magic Castle near Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood (remember WKRP in Cincinnati? Burt Reynolds?). Well, actually she stood in line right behind us waiting to get in, and we had brunch just a couple of tables apart at the Magic Castle. My celebrity sighting for the day. No, I didn't take photos - you will have to believe me (I have witnesses). The Magic Castle is a Victorian manor (the Rollin B. Lane mansion was built in 1908) on Franklin Avenue close to the Hollywood Bowl. We have walked by it 4 years in a row on our way to the Playboy Jazz Festival but despite talking about going there have not done so until yesterday. You have to be a member to get in (for many this means being a magician, but there are several me...

Does anyone know where the Premiere will be for the new Batman movie, "Dark Knight" in Los Angeles? Looking forward to seeing this and would enjoy being there and seeing the Stars.... This should be one of the Summer's Blockbusters and looks like they have carefully crafted it and the special effects, at least the flying one through the city, looks amazing. This was Heath Ledger's last movie. Thanks!!

If you have been following the Real Estate Market to any degree in the past 6-7 months, the sheer amount of information with headlines from "Mortgage Meltdown" to "168 Billion Economic Stimulus package" is positively mind-numbing. Moreover, when was the last time you heard a Realtor tell you it wasn't a "good time to buy?" Specifically in California, where housing tends to cost a tad more than other areas, will raising conforming limits on loans help the market here ? maybe. The question I have is this: Since inventory here in Los Angeles County has basically doubled from last year's levels, how long will it take to get levels down to more "normal" levels? At the moment, we have 12-18 months worth of unsold homes depending on your neighborhood. The reason I am asking is that I constantl...

In the last year over 100 mortgage lenders have gone out of business due to the "mortgage meltdown" as most of you might now it is getting much more difficult to qualify for mortgages in Hollywood. The reason it is difficult to qualify for your Hollywood mortgage is because guidelines have changed drastically. Even reverse mortgages in Hollywood are getting harder to qualify for, leaving many looking for a honest mortgage company in Hollywood.Since many mortgage brokers in Hollywood are going out of business, and others are not able to get you qualified, you need to call a reputable company to help you with your home mortgage in Hollywood. We here at America One Mortgage Group are a national company headquartered out of Southern California. We have offices in many states and fund millio...

The Hollywood Hills call to Nicky Hilton  Whats a Monday Morning without a little Celeb Gossip??? After-all this is LA Right??????  Here's an article from yesterday's L.A. Times regarding Nikki Hilton's new home purchase in the Hollywood Hills! She was represented by her Uncle and the property was listed by Coldwell Banker Sunset Strip.  Hope everyone had a great weekend! Chris- " Quietly and without fanfare, a Hilton heiress recently purchased a Hollywood Hills home for about $3 million. No, not Paris. The buyer is Nicky Hilton, 23, Paris' younger sister. Her new house, built in the '40s, is traditional in style. And it's not excessively large by today's benchmark for the well-heeled. The 4,000-square-foot house has three bedrooms and 4 1/2 bathrooms, an office-gym and a family room. Hi...

One of the things I really like about living in Carlsbad is the ability to get to Los Angeles fairly easily (barring significant traffic if one goes during peak hours) and to enjoy the art, music, theatre and restaurants. Certainly San Diego has lots to offer as well, but being the size that it is, and being an entertainment capitol, LA just is another step beyond. For the third year in a row we went to the Playboy Jazz Festival, held at the Hollywood Bowl (actually in West Hollywood) - 2007 ws the 29th annual event. The Bowl, itself, is a venue that one should not miss...it is truly an icon of the entertainment industry. And during the summer and into fall there is an incredible array of musical offerings to suit every taste. It is absolutely worth the trip to enjoy music in an amazin...

-- Rent and Security Deposits -- Rent is payment for the use of a property, generally under a lease agreement. The rent becomes due at the end of the term, unless otherwise agreed upon in the lease. If the rent is not paid when due, the tenant may be evicted. Rent recieved by the owner is taxable in the year recieved. Frequent rent adjustmentson commerical leases are tied to increases in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers. This index is know as the ( CPI-W). In addition to the first month`s rent, most leases require security deposits. A security deposit is money given to a landlord to prepay for any damage that might occur to a property during a lease term that is more than just wear and tear. State legislation was passed on January 1st 2005 stating tha...

One of my all time favorite shows was Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous with Robin Leach. I even have all the cookbooks and many of the shows on VHS and even started a spa pillow business based on what he said in a hot tub once.Now...there is a new show I tivo on VH1 called Really Rich Real Estate and I love it. It is about high end real estate in Los Angeles with high end real estate agents and the rich and famous and making the deal. I like to keep up with the buzz words for home staging purposes and this show lets me know what is important to high end buyers. What is fun is the Realtors. It is worth the half hour a week to sit and watch all that goes on with the movie stars too.  It plays many times throughout the week so try to catch it. It is mesmerizing!Stage It Forward!
