It's hard to believe but with the additions of 2826 The Strand and 230 The Strand there are now 10 beachfront homes and properties for sale in Hermosa. In the old days it was rare to see a beachfront property hit the market. Much of the timee they were generational type homes passed down to family but that's obviously different these days. What a month it was for home prices in the coastal community of Hermosa Beach CA.  The average price of the homes that sold in Hermosa Beach in May topped $3,000,000. What a month it was with the average price at $3,034,211 to be exact.There were 19 homes that closed escrow during the month and it didn't hurt that one of them sold at $8,500,000.  That home was  beachfront on the Hermosa Beach Strand and definitely pushed up the average sold price. In the late 1940's and the 1950's, Hermosa Beach had, what at that time, was considered a state of the art Marine Aquarium - as reported in an article in the Daily Breeze in August 2006 by Andrea Sudano, the aquarium consisted of "giant glass-fronted tanks of the Ocean Aquarium just south of the pier and west of The Strand. Hermosa Beach's own mini Sea World stood just south of the pier where Shumacher Plaza now is -- or as the Daily Breeze put it in 1956: "Just walk to the foot of Pier Avenue and turn your feet to the right before they get wet. In front of you is a large gray building housing numerous specimen from the sea next door. It's the Ocean Aquarium."
