Swami's Beach in Encinitas Swami's Beach in south Encinitas is another of my favorite beaches. It's known internationally as a great spot to surf...so I've been told, not because of personal experience.  This beach, and bluff-top park, was supposedly nicknamed Swami's by surfers after the founder of the Self-Realization Fellowship Center (built in 1937) that is located on the grounds above this beach, Swami Paramahansa Yogananda.  The views are spectacular and when the tide is out you can walk quite a distance. The climb down the stairs, is not for the faint of heart or anyone with any sort of physical issues.

Finding an unusual amount of foreign cash buyers in your market?    Personally when I hear folks say they think the "Worlds going to Hell in a hand basket" I take pause with a slight whence then a smile and a gleam in my eyes.   Not that I think it's a good thing to see the World in such turmoil but moreover because I'm seeing a lot of off shore $$$ showing up on our shore. Now is that a good or bad thing?   Shortly after America's economy tanked in '08 we started seeing an inordinate amount of real estate and stock investors with boatloads of  $$$ starting to buy up homes, apartments, hotels, resorts, commercial and even industrial properties like crazy. In fact many Chinese investors are even buying up sections of blighted properties in the downtown Detroit area.   If that seems lik...

"You Cannot Kill Us!"  "Freetown Christiania",Copenhagen, Denmark. One must see this unique attraction which was highly recommended to us by the concierge of the Copenhagen Marriott where we were staying before our disembarkation on our cruise through the Fjords of Norway  (which I will be sharing in forthcoming posts). It is known as the quaint and secluded town of Christiania aka “Freetown Christiania”.  Christiania, located in a small area of Copenhagen, Denmark, was established and declared an “Anarchist Community” in 1971.  Their National anthem, “I kan ikke slå os ihjel when translated to English means “You cannot kill us”.  They even fly their own flag (right) albeit they continue to use the Danish Krone as their currency.  Christiania is a quasi self-proclaimed and autonomous ...

Now This Is Telling It Like It Really Is Here In Copenhagen, Denmark  Only walked 7 miles today through the beautiful and charming streets of Copenhagen. Love the folks, temperament and lifestyle here. People seem happy and content and really enjoy their downtime.  Won't bore everyone to death with all the beautiful and historic things there are to see and do here. But I'm sure glad it was on my bucket list. Copenhagen is a city surrounded by water and Kanals. You can travel by boat, public transportation, bicycle (most popular mode of transportation), walk or regretfully drive your car (I pity you if you do)  But no matter your mode it's always nice to return to your hotel get a leg up and enjoy a kool  16oz. Carlsberg on draft.

Lifetime Marriott Premium Platinum Elite Member & Very Disappointed. We've been loyal and lifetime guests and owners of the Marriott travel experience since the 60's and must say I'm growing increasingly more disappointed. In fact we always go out of our way be it whence driveing or by air travel to seek out Marriott properties of some sort as we've always felt at home  and comfortable.  As many if not all of you know Marriott is an International brand with properties ranging from category 2 Springhill Suites, Fairfield Inns, Courtyard, Residence Inns to 8 star Marriott Hotels, JW Marriott, Renaissance, The Ritz and the growing Autograph Collection of boutique hotels and inns Worldwide.  We've been staying at some of the least expensive to finest Marriott properties on the planet depend...

Encinitas House Value CheckEncinitas is located in North County Coastal San Diego. Encinitas is an iconic beach and coastal community that keeps getting better and better. It’s located just north of Solana Beach and Del Mar and just south of Carlsbad. Encinitas has a great coastal stretch of Highway 101 with wonderful beach, ocean and cliff views. If you’re driving down or up the 101 make sure you stop by and take a stroll on the beach or have lunch at one of the restaurants in town. There are several smaller communities of note within the larger community of Encinitas, Cardiff by the Sea, Olivenhain and Leucadia. These are very unique and special communities and each have their own characteristics that us locals love. Are you interested in knowing the value of your Encinitas home? We h...

Savory Spice Shop in Encinitas~ My Favorite Local Spice Shop ~ I’m a grill guy all year round here in Carlsbad. It wasn’t quite that way back in New England due to the weather, but unless it was snowing or REALLY cold grilling was still an option and preferred. I’m a big fan of rubs for fish, chicken and shrimp, and use a variety of them depending on my mood and what I’m grilling. The Savory Spice Shop in Encinitas next door to Carlsbad is a favorite place to buy a wide range of rubs, herbs and salts. And this stuff is always on my Christmas wish list! I usually have a dozen or so different ones I can use (great on roasted potatoes, too!).  Yes, you can order online, which is good for re-orders, but I like checking out the possibilities, where you can sniff and taste, in person. Savory...
