This is a short video clip which captures the charm of the historic gold mining town of Downieville, located in Sierra County in Northern California. One really cool shop we saw was the wine tasting shop, which advertised 49 wines to taste - I'm sure based on 1849 which was the height of the gold rush. Note that there is also a sign showing where the gallows was.  Yes - I guess they did indeed hang people back then.  Very cute town - worthy of a return trip in the summer.       03/21/2010

This 90 second video shows the historic gold mining town of Downieville in Sierra County in Northern California.  You will see the two forks of the river that merge into the North Fork of the Yuba River.  Downieville got its name from a gold miner who reportedly said that if they name the town after him, he would empty a pan of gold dust in the street. They took him up on his offer.  There are quaint restaurants and hotels in town, and the people are very friendly.  It is worth the visit.     03/20/2010
