Square Deal Building Gets a Needed Facelift        The Square Deal Building located on Highway 101 South in the heart of Crescent City, in my opinion, the greatest source of blight in Del Norte County, has been recently purchased by local businessman, Matt Fearing, who is giving it a much needed facelift.Fearing anticipates the renovation to be done by June 1st of 2008 and the new retail shops ready for occupancy at that time.  Along with the renovations to the building, the new owner is landscaping and putting in a new parking lot.  Fearing is vague on what retailer's will be moving into the renovated building because lease's have not been finalized yet, but says two boutique groceries, a furniture store and restaurateur have shown interest in the wonderfully located Square Deal Buildi...

The Del Norte High Warriors end their season with perfection - a 9-0 season. 2007 will be the third straight season the Warrior's have won the Big 5 conference.  Last Friday night's Warrior victory ensured a high seed position when the Warrior's beat the McKinleyville Panthers 42-6 in front of a home town crowd. The Redwood section play-offs should begin November 16 and coach Lewis Nova believes the Warrior's first game should be at home.Saxon Schultz catching a pass - Picture courtesy of The Daily Triplicate

As a first time home buyer, especially in a small community like Crescent City, California, how will you get started in your home buying process?  This of coarse depends on how serious you are as the home buyer, are you looking to move within 6 months?  Are you looking to move right away, or are you just thinking and planning ahead?  Once you have narrowed down your motivations on buying a home, decide on how urgent your move is and go from there.  If you are not planning on moving for a year or more, then you can spend time browsing and watching the local market.  You can have an agent at Lucky Star Realty watch the market for you and send you email up dates of homes that fit your criteria.  Identifying your future home's criteria is the second step in buying a home in Crescent City Ca...

Wouldn't it be nice to just go for a drive today?  Get out and see what nature has tucked away from civilization?  I am enjoying life as it comes these days.  Eventually, I'll have enough time and money both to take my family on outtings and vacations.  But today, I had appointments and an Open House back to back to back, on a Saturday no less!  Tomorrow, I'm on call for another Open House.   My daughters always complain about how they don't have enough fun through the day.  But obviously, they get ample opportunities for play.At least for now, my wife and I are doing all right.  However, some days are more difficult to satisfy everyone else's preferences and druthers, let alone our own!  Perhaps the complications will lessen in another 15-20 years!  Oh well, at least everyone is t...

Today in Crescent City, the weather was extremely nice, considering that we had just gotten our first rains of the season on Tuesday.  Today felt like it was summer!  Even my clients from out of town who came up to search for their future home in Crescent City thought that this weather was the nicest they have experienced during this time of year.  Well anyways, I was in the office today at Lucky Star Realty (on 1305 Northcrest Drive, Crescent City CA 95531) and a referral client came into the office.  She walked in and right away asked for my number 1 agent Wes White (he does excellent work by the way, serving his clients in their home buying process) and said that he had given her and her boyfriend a list of homes in Crescent City for sale before, but she had lost it and would like to...

You know you live in a small town when getting a Starbuck's is a really big deal.Yep, Crescent City is a happening place. Last October we had the grand opening of our Home Depot and this October we broke ground on a Starbuck's.  The Starbuck's building is also going to house U.S. Cellular according to the worker's that I interviewed.I have also heard scuttlebutt that Crescent City is getting a Walgreen's.  Wow!  How exciting is that?  I guess the big corporations have found that Del Norte County is worthy of investing their resources. As exciting as the Home Depot grand opening and Starbuck's building is, the excitement doesn't compare to that every person in our county must feel at seeing the old Square Deal building get renovated.  To say the Square Deal Building was blight would be a ...

One of the most beautiful places to go and bring your family to hang out and have fun in Crescent City, CA is Front Street Park.  This park has it all, from community swimming pool, to a very large disc golf course, to a beautiful beach access, to horse shoe area, to a marine animal center.   There are community activity going on all year round at Front Street Park in Crescent City.  During the 4th of July Celebration, the 4th of July Parade goes along Front Street Park as community members, young and old, kick about along the side walks and grass area of the park.   Every other morning around a certain time, I would go meet an old friend and we practice our disc golf skills and we would play all throughout the disc golf park laid out along the park.  There is a variety of terrain to go...

Today I would like to report on some statistics about Crescent City California real estate, especially the Active Listings.  Taken from the Crescent City MLS and Crescent City Board of Realtors, we currently have 299 active single family homes for sale on the market. Of those 299 homes, the average number of days on the market is 163 days.   While the average asking price is  $378,608, the median price is $293,000.  Most decent single family homes I've seen on the Crescent City real estate market range from $230,000 to $300,000 (click on www.luckystarrealestate.com and go to my listings).   The average active home for sale price of $378, 608 must have been thrown off by the outlier high price of $3,200,000.   Compared to other markets in California, Crescent City and Del Norte County is...

Waking up this morning, I had to hurry up to South Beach in Crescent City California because I was volunteering for the Annual Noll Classic Surf Competition.  I love the beach, I love the ocean, and the natural mountains in the background and the fresh air that our trees in and around Crescent City have to offer.   Yesturday was a fairly sunny day in Crescent City, with warm weather during the day time and cool temperatures in the evening.  I was out showing some investment properties yesterday to a client who lives in Willow Creek, CA.  Since I work and sell real estate in both Humboldt County and Del Norte County, he requested my help in helping him find his first real estate investment property.  Earlier in the week, we had viewed all the fixers in Fortuna, Eureka, Arcata, basically ...

I love Crescent City, CA.  Crescent City has one of the most beautiful coast lines I have ever seen, comparable to Eureka, and Trinidad California, but very unique and very natural.  Pebble Beach Drive is a drive along the Pacific Ocean like no other.  On the one side, there are very beautiful, uniquely build homes, most are two stories with many glass windows to help bring in the magnificient ocean views and beach front, on the other is the coast line itself.  Then there is the famous Battery Point Light House where tourists and locals alike are able to walk across the sea water at low tide and wander around the hystoric light house and wonder about the stories and history that occured inside and during its time of glory. The next time you are driving up the California North Coast and ...

Crescent City is becoming one of the major cities in the California Northcoast that features artistic and locally and naturally beautiful murals all over the town.  One of the biggest and beautiful is the mural that features the area's many light houses that covers the Renner Building on U.S. Hwy. 101.  This mural had alot of community support and involement, Crescent City community members, young and old, participated in this event.  Here are a couple pictures of the beautifal Light House mural in Crescent City California and a picture of the real life Battery Point Light House itself:  You can hardly notice a difference between the mural drawing and the real picture I took today of the Battery Point Light house in Crescent City Ca.

Today I am going to talk about the Crescent City Skate-park.  I would like to talk about the skate park because unknowing to most people, the skate-park itself is an attraction to tourists and is a major part of the reason why I choose to work and live in Crescent City and Del Norte County.  Sure, most people come up to live in the Crescent City area because of its natural Redwood forest, its beautiful Northern Pacific Coast line, its scenic hiking trials, its beautiful beaches and annual Noll's Surfing contest, it small town feel and community involvement, and a dozen or so other reasons...but for me, my personal reason for moving to Crescent City and deciding to work and live here is because of the Crescent City Skateboard Park (along with those other wonderful reasons too, of coarse!...

The Lease Option and the Owner Carry are two ways to get a buyer into a home who does not have good credit or for some reason, this would be the best way for them to be able to purchase a home without getting their own bank loan.  These two methods are very similar and often, people get confused as to which is which and how they work.  The buyer is especially confused because they think they know a little bit about fthem rom their friends and families, but really, they only know a small piece of it and not the whole picture.   To start off, both lease options and owner carries (owner financing) are very similar because both methods allow the buyer a means of garunteeing that they would eventually be able to own the house and do a conventional purchase later on.  In an owner carry, the b...
