San Diego Real Estate BlogChristmas in San Diego 2009 Hotel Del Coronado San Diego Real Estate BlogChristmas in San Diego wouldn't be complete without a day at the Hotel Del Coronado. The Hotel Del Coronado located on Coronado Island which is one of the most precious pieces of real estate in San Diego County, always goes all out for the holidays. 2009 was no exception and the Hotel Del was a shining lighthouse in a sea of holiday things to do in San Diego. Parking was $25 at the hotel so we decided to park out on the street which was surprisingly easy to find. Some in our party parked at the hotel and paid the $25 which might seem steep but if you spend the whole day it's well worth it.  Once we walked onto the hotel grounds the sounds and sights of the holidays were everywhere. The Chr...

Ice skating is likely NOT the first thing that comes to mind when you hear "Southern California," even in the winter. I think of Maine, Minnesota, Michigan, Massachusetts, and other non-M states that get REALLY cold. REALLY! The Hotel Del Coronado, perhaps one of the most famous hotels in San Diego, offers folks the chance to ice skate outdoors overlooking the blue Pacific Ocean. Now what could be better than that? Palm tree...sand...ocean...ice skating at holiday time.  Ice Skating at The Del, as it's affectionately known, continues until January 3, 2010 on their 10,000 lawn. Well, not the lawn itself, of course. You know...   Skating sessions are daily from 2 - 5 pm and then from 6 - 9 pm.  There are weekend and holiday matinees from 11 - 1.  From December 19th on you can also skate b...

The Coronado Bridge, that leads us, living in San Diego, effortlessly to Coronado, turns forty years old today. The Coronado Bridge was opened in 1969 and has been paid in full by San Diego residents and tourists. The $1.00 toll was collected until 2002, even though it was paid off by 1986. The reason for the extended toll was due to those who had purchased their piece of Coronado real estate and their fear that by discontinuing the toll, traffic to the island would substantially increase. Turns out they were right.  Traffic has increased by approximately twenty percent since 2002. The cost of the bridge was nearly fifty million dollars in state construction bonds and is able to withstand around thirty thousand cars on a daily basis. However, nowadays there are around eighty thousand ca...

Does this look like it is worth $599,000?  Would you believe it was orginally priced at $850,000?  Only in Coronado would properties like this beg a second look.  This little home is located at 1012 9th Avenue, just off Orange Avenue.  Looking at these photos would make you think how neat this home is, but what you don't see are photos of the location. What you don't see is that this home is sitting right next to an alley, across from a liqour store, and 1/2 block away from the Vons and directly across from the Vons parking lot.  It is always fascinating to me to see what certain markets can bear price wise.  Now this property is still overpriced because today it has been on the Sandicor Multiple Listing Service (MLS) for 353 days.  I am not sure when the price reduction occurred, but e...

Coronado and affordable rarely are found in the same sentence.  However, we have discovered, for Coronado, there are affordable properties.  After researching Coronado real estate, we realized there is an underserved market.  Every Coronado real estate agent wants to sell the $2,000,000 properties.  But it occurred to us to ask the question "What if you want to live in Coronado, but are not a $2,000,000 buyer?"  Who serves your interests?  We do and we decided to tell you what we find as "bargains" in Coronado and why they are bargains.   Here is our "affordable" Coronado property for today.  This is the least expensive Coronado condo located in the Village.  This is a one bedroom/one bath condo located at 422 G Avenue and priced at $399,000.  This project was actually built in 1943 and...

San Diego is one of the largest congregation of military personnel in the free world, and it's going to get a little bigger next year when the U.S.S. Carl Vinson (CVN-70), a nuclear aircraft carrier, moves to the North Island Naval Air Station from Norfolk, Virginia. Currently, the North Island Naval Air Station is home to the U.S.S. Nimitz (CVN-68) and the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) aircraft carriers. The U.S.S. Vinson was commissioned March 13, 1982, and carries 85 planes and a crew of 5,500. F-14A planes from the Vinson starred in the movie "Top Gun," and you can see the Vinson herself in the opening scenes of the movie "The Presidio," and she starred in thet movie "Behind Enemy Lines." The military will be upgrading Berth Lima on the base's east side to the tune of $38 million, ...

Hotel Del Coronado is a National Historic Landmark. Located on Coronado Island right across the bay from Downtown San Diego, I was there this past week to observe the marvelous Christmas Display and I certainly was not disappointed. I wanted to share the wonderful Christmas decorations that are becoming almost as famous as the hotel herself. The Victorian styling of this hotel calls back to era of sophistication and elegance and this years Christmas Tree lives up to that tradition. There is a photo below of some of the details of the decorations. The tree is so large, it is hard to capture it in one photo so I did a close-up photo so you could appreciate the turn of the century stylings. I hope you will enjoy these pictures as reminiscent of the by gone days brought current by the Grand...

Since I'm the resident "golfer agent" in this company everyone asks me for recommendations of where to play golf in San Diego. Wow..this is a loaded question in that there are over 70 courses to choose from! I have my obvious favorite, Coronado Golf Course, right in my own back yard.  This is one of the most recognizable courses in San Diego having the San Diego Bay line so many of the fairways, fabulous view of the downtown San Diego skyline, great vistas of  the famous "blue bridge", this course has it all. Over 103,000 rounds are played here each year, more than any other course in the county. It's not just the wonderful views, fabulous hole layout, great clubhouse, food sevice, staff....no, I think it has more to do with the fact that the greensfees are only $25.00.  Yes, I said $25...

I am putting together a story about hotel hauntings, and surely one to top the list would be reports of hauntings at the Hotel del Coronado, which have circulated for years. The most famous San Diego and Coronado ghost is a young woman who reportedly committed suicide near the turn of the last century after her husband or lover abandoned her. I don’t remember exactly where she stayed that fateful night at the Hotel del Coronado, but I do recall a desk clerk giving me the room number during a stay at the Hotel Del Coronado a few years ago. Unable to resist the temptation, I went by that small interior room in the hotel (with windows that opened into the hallway), but the window coverings were drawn shut and I could see nothing. The clerk said that many psychics and ghosthunters reserve ...
