As some of you know, my friend Adryon is running the Nike Women's Marathon to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  As some of you also know, I think that she is insane for doing this.  Great, doing it for a good cause, but insane. One thing I can get behind, however, is the carb loading Friday nights before her run.  (She's currently running 20 miles in San Francisco as I type this).  She texted me this week & said, "I  need to carb load, want to go out & eat spaghetti?"  Um, Italian food, YES. So we decided to go to Evana's Italian Kitchen.  It is in a strip mall with a Trader Joe's, a pet store, etc., but I've checked it out before and found the food to be delicious.  Inside, it's very cute, as you can see. The fall of Indymac Part II   Yesterday Indymac Bank (IMB) ceased accepting new loan files in both Retail and Wholesale.  They cited the usual rhetoric of the difficult financial marketplace and turbulent times.  This is on the heels of the Schumer story. They also cited, (and this is the really important part)  Lack of Liquidity "Yet in this environment, where either there are no bids for most of IMB's mortgage loans and securities or the bid/ask spreads are abnormally wide, fire-selling assets would actually deplete capital further. The Last Day of Countrywide   Today, June 30th, is the last day Countrywide will exist as itself. Tomorrow it'll be Bank of America. Did you know Countrywide started in 1969?  No, I wasn't lending back then, I was 10 years old.  Yes, Countrywide has received it share of bad press recently.  Deservedly or not, they've also done some good things.   Was the B of A merger a thinly disguised Fed orchestrated bail out? Does Countrywide deserve everything they get? Should Angelo Mozillo spend a little time behind bars?
