2019 Holiday Trees in CarlsbadClassic and the Non-Traditional  The holiday tree at the Carlsbad Village Faire is a classic, aat the front entrance to this popular shopping and dining destination and the site of numerous holiday events. The annual tree lighting was scheduled for December 8 but was canceled due to the weather (the predicted rains that day did not happen).  There are a couple of non-traditional "Christmas Trees" along the coast road overlooking the ocean that get decorated every year. No doubt a number of residents are involved...perhaps some of the same people every year. In any case it's always fun to see these trees as they are always different. These are 2 different views of one tree perched above the ocean.

Throwback Thursday: A Holiday Dog  This is a cute pic of a dog all decked out for the holidays, at last year's Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration on December 2; sadly, the event was canceled this year due to the weather. My wife and I enjoy the celebration, festivities, music, and seeing a bunch of people and their pets all dressed up for the holidays. And yes, I did ask permission to photograph this cutie. His owner, I think, was flattered and said he had been well photographed all afternoon. He was pretty excited, though, and not particularly interested in posing for the camera.

Carlsbad Holiday Light Displays for 2019 I enjoy seeing the holiday light displays in my neighborhood, and all around Carlsbad including the Village. It’s also pretty impressive what some private homeowners do with their homes…we have a few white lights on trees in front and that’s it! Twin Inns - I really enjoy how the Twin Inns on Carlsbad Boulevard are lit up every year, especially the palm trees. I haven't seen them yet this year but no doubt they will impress again. This photo is from 2 years ago.  And of course I always enjoy seeing the Holiday Tree at the Carlsbad Village Faire (300 Carlsbad Village Drive just west of the railroad tracks) all lit up. Just a reminder to Carlsbadians that the annual tree lighting is tomorrow from 2 – 4:45 pm. Hopefully it won’t be raining. I enjoy ...

Wordless Wednesday: A Raptor Visitor  Our house backs up to a wooded canyon and as a result we get all kinds of bird and wild life. We often see hawks nearby in the sky hunting, or nesting in the trees, and occasionally one lands on our fence, as this one did the other day. I believe it's a Cooper's Hawk, which are pretty common in San Diego. As soon as they appear all the other birds disappear...with good reason.

Wordless Wednesday: What a Beautiful Sight and Sound  It's been a beautiful day today (and last night) with badly needed rain falling, rather heavy at times, and causing some flash flood warnings to be issued for our area in Northern and Western San Diego County. It was nice to be out running errands and getting a little wet. It's stopped for now but still really gray. Hope it's not over yet.

The October 2019 Carlsbad Art Wall UPDATED  I previously posted the latest Carlsbad Art Wall mural, by New Zealand artist Chimp, on October 24th. The mural was painted over the prior weekend and I took the photos Monday afternoon the 21st. Normally the artists have completed their creations by the time the weekend ends (when they are always painted), and so I thought this one was done. I recently learned some additional work was done to the mural which vastly improved it, so here it is. Here's what was posted before - do you have a preference?
