Monday Motivation: have you read Outliers? The Story of Success, by Malcolm Gladwell. In 2009 KW was aggressively trying to recruit me as they were about to enter the Los Angeles Real Estate Market. I was invited to Mega Camp in Austin, TX. How could I say no, stay at the Four Seasons by the river and get charmed, motivated and the list goes on and on.The Manager who spent all this money and effort on me gave me this book: Outliers. The Story of Success. I loved the book and the lovely treatment. I decided to stay with the company I was with, there are times I reach to the book for inspiration. He dedicated the book to me, which I thought was very kind and quoted FDR:"...Happiness lies in the joy of achievement & the thrill of creative effort" Loved the quote and the message. Wishing all ...

Market snapshot for Beverly Hills in the 90210 zip code... Beverly Hills, CA 90210Fri Jun 07 2024This week the median list price for Beverly Hills, CA 90210 is $9,500,000 with the market action index hovering around 27. This is about the same as last month's market action index of 27. Inventory has held steady at or around 177. The market shows signs of warming up, with sales demand recently increasing faster than inventory. Prices have not yet responded as the market is still working through excess inventory. It’s unlikely that we’ll see prices level off or move higher until the MAI sustains its upward trend and maybe not until the inventory is depleted enough to create a Seller’s market.Needless to say, it is challenging for buyers when they are facing interest rates of 7-7.5% How wou...

Diane and I have a private joke, that I work for Taxes, the Vets, food and wine.... there are times I do referrals other times I just work for wine. Well this bottle was a gift from another Realtor for the help I provided her without wanting a referral fee, just a good bottle of wine.Well since Diane was away with her girlfriend of 40+ years ago in Laguna Beach I rewarded myself the past two nights with this wonderful Bordeaux wine.Needless to say, if you can afford it, then make sure you buy it and drink it, it's worth every drop.Wishing you a safe and healthy life and I look forward to your comments. If you are looking for a knowledgeable, focused and goal-oriented Realtor in the Beverly Hills area who will help you achieve your Real Estate goals, please reach out to me directly! If y...

I fly my flag proudly and celebrate and thank those 156,000 Allied troops that landed by sea on five beaches. The code names were: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword. At the same time these soldiers landed on the beach many parachuted behind the German defensive liens.Sadly about 4,500 of these brave soldiers were killed on D-Day and another 5,800 were wounded or went missing. All I can say is thank you to those brave soldiers who landed and fought hard and thank you to those ones that gave the ultimate sacrifice, their lives. There are still about 200 of these brave men alive, I am grateful and proud of them. I proudly fly the American Flag, my flag for these brave men.Wishing you a safe and healthy life and I look forward to your comments. If you are looking for a knowledgeable, focused a...

Throwback Thursdays: Meeting John Le Carre' the year was 2008...I saw the movie " The Spy who came in from the Cold" I had to read the book. Next thing you know is I was hooked. Every Le Carre' book that was published I had to have, and I bought them. In fairness to disclosure did not read all of them but bought them to read them as time permitted. Then he published "A most wanted man" in 2008 and much to my excitement he did a book signing tour and came to Los Angeles.Diane and I loaded up all my books about 15 or more at the time. After the discussion he was there to sign his book. I started pulling out my books and he graciously started signing them. His handler said only the current books do not sign the others. Diane was great she started arguing with the handler and in the meantime ...

Monday Motivations: Message from Coach John Wooden... I can never find anything that is not motivational from Coach Wooden's Book: "A lifetime of Observations and Reflections on and off the court".I keep his book hand's reach to me and if the moment arises, I can just reach and read a sentence or a paragraph from his book and I am instantly motivated. Now here is a quote I have to share: The Glory Is in Getting There   When people ask me now if I miss coaching UCLA basketball games, the national championships, the attention, the trophies, and everything that goes with them, I tell them this: I miss the practices.I don't miss the games or the tournaments or all the other folderols. As Robert Louis Stevenson wrote," It is better to travel hopefully than arrive" I tried to do that. It's the...

Throwback Thursdays: Just some photos that bring back some fond memories... well for me anyway. The top photo is Diane's Father and my father in Salem, MA a long time ago. All six of us had such fun... to me it feels like yesterday but it was a long time ago.Well it has been a while since we had a bottle of Dom... looking at the photo and the carpet had to be at least twelve years ago:)This photo is even older, I see I am at the Czechoslovak Border, and I am a First Lieutenant... hence I suspect it was around 1980 oh well just the other day:)One of my Active Rain friends sent me a referral and here was the result oh about five years or so ago. Thank you again. Wishing you a safe and healthy life and I look forward to your comments. If you are looking for a knowledgeable, focused and goa...

Capture Complex Details forever with Mental Review... as some of my regular readers know, there is a book I love, it is called "Double Your Brain Power" by Jean Marie Stine. I have written posts before about this book.Periodically, I tend to share some of her tid-bits. I am a firm believer, that her information is spot on and very beneficial for those of us who are in the fundamental business of listing and selling real estate and need to recall information that might be complex. Now with that said:  how do you commit complex material to long-term memory?"Mental Review" is a strategy developed by Professor Matthew Erdelyi of the City University of New York. After 10 minutes of learning spend 5 minutes to review the information. Then the next day review it for another 2-3 minutes. Then afte...

As most of you who read my posts know I am a huge fan of Marcus Aurelius', well with that said, check out my selections for today:"Always have clear in your mind that 'the grass in not greener' elsewhere, and how everything is the same here as on top of the mountain. or on the seashore, or wherever you will. Plato's word you will find directly opposite: 'walling himself a fold on a mountain and milking his flock when they bleat'.How many agents switch brokerages for this reason? Just wondering out loud."When circumstances force you to some sort of distress, quickly return to yourself. Do not stay out of rhythm for longer than you must: you will master the harmony the more by constantly going back to it."Often, I have to remind myself when I am negotiating three or four transactions at t...

Marketing, Visibility is so important, not just in Real Estate... I am a huge fan of good marketing. Not just in Real Estate but in all products. If you recall I did a blog post about a fantastic pickle that we saw on a main road between Marina del Rey and Los Angeles International Airport as in LAX. I am a fan of it and support the product. Now with that said the other day I had to go pick up our Jill from ASAC the Vets Specialty Group... Diane was already there my job was to get Jill home. Now with that said on the way I saw this truck see both photos.Great Marketing as far as I was concerned. Now on the way home I saw this sign, keep in mind it is a very busy street Sepulveda Blvd on the West Side of Los Angeles. It was clear to me they are targeting the affluent parts of the Greater...

Since the Pandemic shut down, I have seldom gone into the office. Meetings I have handled via Zoom. Well, today was my manager's 12th year as being the office broker/ manager and since I was his first recruit I felt obligated to go in. Then to boot it was his birthday as well. The 50th year of his arrival into this world.Hence, both landmarks were good reason to go into the office. I joked with the agents, I almost forgot how to get to the office since it has been that long:)Well, when I got there were a couple of boxes and the receptionist dug through them and found two items for me to take home. I thought one was a box of chocolates. The other was an award.Turned out both were awards; one was for 2021 and the other or 2023. Ironically did not tell her, that I am sure there was another...

Sad to say none are autographed.I have made a few recipes from each of his books over the decades. Now with that said I am inspired to make a few more of his dishes. If you have been there and bought his cookbooks, please share in the comments below. If you have not hope I inspired, you to check his recipes out. Wishing you a safe and healthy life and I look forward to your comments. There are a lot of things going on in the world and in our lives as well. I had to share my thoughts with you tonight. I have three Escrows, that I am trying to keep together and as you know there are challenges to deal with and at the same time trying to list new properties and market twelve other listings can be challenging at times. Then to boot, there are many distractions going on in the US as well as in the world. Just to name a few, an Ex President who is fighting a lot of legal issues. This made me think, how insignificant my issues are compared to his.As, I read the headlines about potential Nuclear Wars, thanks to things going on in Ukraine & Russia as well as in the Middle East as in Israel and Iran.Putting all this in perspective, made me think that I do not really have any ...

Monday Motivation: How to inspire the "non speaker" to speak. One of my favorite books 'Doubling Your Brain Power' address this question and I thought I would share here and see what your thoughts are.The ones who are what we call the silent ones, not just on Active Rain, but in real life. These were the advice given: 1.  Draw them out with praise.2.  Ask pointed questions3. Make comments that provoke response4. Once they start talking do not interrupt.5. Give positive feedback. This reminded me of Active Rain... there are some who fit into this category. There are others who what I call 'Hopeless" they think Active Rain is a Bulletin Board not to interact but post you listings... my take is they are missing out and I feel sorry for them.Just to be clear I am not here to lecture or help on...

Truly a fantastic investment property to be able to purchase 2.54 acres of residential land in the serene setting of the Black Butte Community of Palmdale, CA. Not only is this a great investment property, but this could also be a perfect private dessert getaway. Enjoy the gorgeous desert and mountain views. The land is close to Lake Los Angeles and Black Butte Airfield. Buyer to do their own investigation, seller lives out of country and has never seen the property and just wants it sold, hence the list price is hard to imagine.Agent Remarks: This prope...

Monday Motivation: it has been a while since I posted one of these posts... I have been busy in a good way for which I am very grateful for. Now with that said let me go to my favorite philosopher Marcus Aurelius. I never get tired of reading from his Meditations and never get tired of sharing them here.He who sees the present has seen all things, both all that has come to pass from everlasting and all that will be for eternity: All things are related and the same. How many who once rose to fame are now consigned to oblivion: and how many who sang their fame are long disappeared.Do not dream of possession of what you do not have: rather reflect on the greatest blessings in what you do have, and on their account remind yourself how much they would have been missed if they were not there. ...
