Sidney Spit, on Sidney Island, and only accessible by boat, is a marvellous short 4 km sail from the town of Sidney, near Victoria on Vancouver Island. Yesterday was a beautiful sunny warm day and my family and I sailed over to Sidney Spit. We anchored off the island and took our dinghy to the long sandy beach where my young son had so much fun wading into the extremely cold water, and then drying off on the warm soft sand.  The Coast Salish Natives used to have a summer camp on the island but it is now a British Columbia Park and boasts the finest beaches of all parks in the Victoria region. The privately-run Sidney Spit ferry for foot passengers operates from the town of Sidney to Sidney Island, and takes 25 minutes.
