The shocking thing is when I took my small gas can to the gas station. It only holds 1 gallon and it cost over 5 dollars to fill! It is a shock to see the price per gallons. The price per liter has never really made sense to me. I still know our mini van probably gets about 15-20 mpg island driving but who knows how many liters per kilometer. I just finished building a set of steps today and thankfully you can still buy wood per inch or foot. Maybe it is a generational thing. I still cannot do metric. I just don't like it. I guess that is the thing about the Internet if you want to find 100 other people who dislike the metric system all you have to do is Google and then I am sure there is a forum and chat room all about it.Wow here is a neat site http://members.tripod.com/~siams_canada/...

I was talking to one of the pro's last night and I dint know that men's league had started up. I haven't hit balls in 5 month now I am totally out of sink. Why do I always vow to keep swinging the clubs all winter but never do. Yes you can play year round on Salt Spring. The first few rounds of the year are never pretty. After the front 9 I am usually ready to call it a day. Maybe I will take to boys over to the range in the morning and hit some balls. Yes that is a good plan hit 200 balls until my back is so sore then I wont be able to play for two week. New plan chip some balls in the back yard tomorrow. Yes work on the short game.CheersScottfor all your Salt Spring Golf info visit links at http://www.escapetosaltspring.com

Yes I have to tell you about this. Just in case you are thinking of moving to Salt Spring you should know about this. Although it seem like a nice place anything can happen even here. It can happen anywhere I guess but I never new it could happen here. I might just buy locks for my doors....hum... maybe not I would need keys and you know where that leads. I would have to carry the keys. You can always spot the off island driver down town Ganges when they lock their cars. Most people just leave the keys in them. But with this murder and crime wave hitting the island. Well read the article and you tell me to lock or not?Read the hole story here http://www.canadianmysteries.ca/sites/robinson/home/indexen.htmlFor Salt Spring real estate information visitshttp://www.escapetosaltspring.com/

The energy used to operate Salt Spring homes accounts for about one third of the energy we consume on Saltspring island each year. The Salt Spring Energy Strategy 2012 target is to reduce that amount by about one fifth. Here is how:Retrofit one thousand existing salt spring and Gulf island homes for energy efficiency Half of all new homes built super energy-efficient to EnerGuide 80 or better One quarter of island woodstoves changed to high-efficiency models What is Salt Spring doing to improve home energy performance? To read more click here; http://www.saltspringenergystrategy.org/housing.htmCheersScott

If you are going to rent a home on Salt Spring Island or for people renting Salt Spring properties there are a few places to look for Salt Spring rental information. The Driftwood classified ads. The Islands Marketplace free classified ads. The Salt Spring rental market is tight in the summer months. A lot of the rental places are not legal rentals and go against local zoning. However with the shortage of affordable housing on Salt Spring the Island Trust usually responds on a complaint basis. There is no guarantee that if you buy a place with an illegal suite in it you will be allowed to rent it out. The city of Vancouver legalized all secondary suites last year. In time the local governments in BC may see this as the only viable alternative to the affordable housing crisis. If you are...

Vermiculite Insulation Vermiculite ore produced by the Libby Mine in Montana from the 1920's to 1990 was sold as Zonolite® Attic Insulation and could contain amphibole asbestos. If the Saltspring house has Vermiculite Insulation it "has to" be tested. I, Scott Simmons, could not sleep at night knowing my Salt Spring house was not tested.  It will cost $8,000-$20,000 to remove the vermiculite if it's in the Salt Spring residence. Not all vermiculite has asbestos. There are numerous Salt Spring condos, town-homes or Strata's available to buy. Priced from 300 and up.First what is a condo. A condominium is a Strata in British Columbia. Strata, Condo, Condominium are all the same. Do not get a Strata confused with a Co-op which is totally different. All Strata, from a two unit to a 500 unit, are governed in BC by the Strata Property Act. A Strata consist of the strata lot, common property and common assets.  Strata's are self governed. They all have a strata plan on file. It can be a bare land Strata or a building Strata. The land can be owned by the strata as freehold or it could be a leasehold. The entity that owns the common property is know as the Strata corporation. It is governed by the owners that make up the Strata council. Some times the co...

There are different types of Salt Spring waterfront: low bank, high bank, semi waterfront, tidal waterfront and lakefront. It is all diferent and not worth the same amount. If the property is on Salt Spring waterfront: Things to think about: Does the Salt Spring property have sensitive shoreline status? If it's low bank, is the Salt Spring beach leased out to a clam operation? In Canada, you do not own the beach. Rather, the Canadian property ends at the high water mark. Is it a summertime party beach or tranquil all year round. To view all the Salt Spring waterfront lots and or house on Salt Spring mls http://www.escapetosaltspring.com/Waterfront_mls/page_1828528.htmlCheersScotthttp://www.escapetosaltspring.com/

Three Point Properties put on a very interesting and informative presentation of their new south Salt Spring development. They have two properties and are doing a density swap as per the OCP (official community plan). The Hughes farm on Fulford Ganges Rd will be divided into three properties and one of them will be 63.2 acres. This land will be given to the farmers institute and then it will be leased out to farmers(the lease structure is not known yet). It is not clear who the farmers will be but it sounds like it will be an allotment system similar to the ones in the UK. Small plots that people can lease for a low fee and farm. With all the talk of sustainability this is a good ideal. At one time Salt Spring was a supplier of food now we are a net importer. I have heard that we import...
