Red Accessories - Olympic Style February 25, 2010, 9:55 am Here is a new twist to adding "red accessories"!  Ok, we're not exactly talking about home staging here.  I just couldn't resist sharing a few photos of my volunteer position here at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games.   Above are two of Canada's finest Royal Canadian Mounted Police, along with myself on the left, and Renee, another happy volunteer on my right, in front of our information booth at B.C. Place.  B.C. Place is home to the Opening & Closing Ceremonies, as well as various official medal presentations.   Three happy and enthusiastic volunteers, welcoming the world. This was the scene last night at Robson Square, in the heart of the downtown core.  The crowd was celebrating Canada's Men's Hockey Team defeating Russia 7 ...

We're into the home stretch of the Olympic Games here in Vancouver.  We are still rejoicing for several reason:  It is finally snowing on Cypress Mountain, Canada just won a gold medal for pairs ice dance - a first for Canada, and the Canadian men's hockey team is meeting Russia for a face off tonight.  All in all, this has been a very exciting time for our city, with a party atmosphere every night.  Canadians are not normally known for excessive patriotism, so it has been interesting to see all the red and white sweaters, and faces painted with red maple leaves.  In a word (okay, three words) Go Canada Go! Exit Stage Right is a home staging and redesign business.  We are proud to be volunteering at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. www.exitstageright.ca  Servicing North Vancouver, West Vanc...

Fraser Valley Real Estate Trade Show  FRASER VALLEY REAL ESTATE TRADE SHOW EXIT STAGE RIGHT Home Staging – North Vancouver, B.C. was pleased to attend the Fraser Valley Real Estate Trade Show in Langley. We enjoyed collaborating with our colleagues: Mila Herenda, MIZO DESIGN SOLUTIONS, Yvonne Swain, HINT OF ELEGANCE, and Nancy Glover, an organizer, MIND YOUR MATTER. We had a great time at this event, and enjoyed meeting real estate professionals. It was interesting to learn that some realtors already had strong affiliations with staging companies, while others were just starting out and were just learning about staging. Some didn’t believe in staging, while others embraced our industry. We were fortunate to have the support of READY, SET, SHOW of North Vancouver, who were very kind in...

Last week a colleague and I staged a property in Gastown on the second hottest day ever recorded in Vancouver.  Lucky for us we began early in the day! The property was a bachelor apartment with a lovely brick wall and some interesting features.  We used some of what the tenant had and brought in some rentals.  We would call this a "redesign" staging - usually more cost effective for the client.  We were pleased with the results, see what you think... Before Staging:    After Staging... Hope you like it ~ we were pleased and so was the client!

According to the Colour Marketing Group, the new colour for 2009 is Mimosa!  A bright, zesty, fun colour which inspires confidence and is full of life.  Expect to see this colour paired with white in cushions, candles, throws, and other accessory pieces for the home.  In the summer we may even see the 'little, yellow, polka dot bikini!" I can see this for accessory pieces and splashes of colour.  How do you see this colour?  Do you like it?

Are you looking forward to getting your home ready for the holidays?  I know I am.  There are so many colour choices this year to focus on.  Should I go Robin's egg blue, white and silver - with some fluffy feathers?  Or, do I go more traditional with the reds and greens?  Hmm, whatever you choose it should be something you love, whether you are pulling out favourites from years past or want to 'take it up a notch' this year and try some of the season's fun colours like the above mentioned blue and lime green, or, maybe the rosy pinks with some light pink and gold mixed in. Oh, and how about those new artificial trees - they are coming in colours like white or pink or have all the lights built in - too bad I prefer a real tree ~ especially the fragrance!  Which do you prefer?  Whatever ...

Just an update on the new paint by Benjamin Moore, Aura.  I recently painted my office with the new Aura paint.  It is self priming and covers well. I did notice a few spots that needed touching up after it had dried, but am not sure if it was the paint, or my hesitancy to roll the paint out too much for fear of it causing a problem.  One thing that was emphasized to me was that you could not overwork the paint or you would have problems.  I would use this paint again, however, as the final finish is lovely and the paint reasonably easy to work with.  You do have to be cautious if you are keeping paint in your tray that you keep a damp paper towel over the tray and the roller/brushes to prevent it drying out on you.

This amazing new paint from Benjamin Moore is considered to be cutting edge in the field.  Previously paint was a blend, and still is in many cases, of the water based latex resin and the oil based colourant which created the colour choice the homeowner picked.  Benjamin Moore's Aura paint goes one step farther.  Aura is a water based latex resin with a water based colourant which means that it blends totally to create a beautiful finish.  Have you ever noticed in bathrooms that occasionally, and eventually, there is streaking running down the walls?  That it even appears somewhat shiny and if you try to wipe it off it doesn't disappear?  What happens is that is warm, steamy showers the oil based colourant in the paint is reactivated.  Evidently the colourant never really 'dries' and wh...

There is a distinct movement toward Decorating Green-as in reusing, and recycling~in other words~redesigning and using what we already have!  Many will discredit decorators and designers as encouraging homeowners to strip down their homes to the rafters every January because that way we stay in business; however, when we focus on redesign we focus on using what you already have and perhaps adding an accent piece that complements the homeowners' style that also gives a lift and may be based on a current, or new, trend.  The same is true when it comes to staging a house for selling.  Many of the clients I work with have furniture that works quite well within the space, but simply needs 'twiquing'.  I worked on a client's house, preparing it for selling, last weekend.  She had the most fab...
