Sedona Winter SolsticeIt is all about the shadows! On the Winter Solstice, the sun rises at the most eastern part of its journey along the horizon.  During the Summer Solstice, the sun will rise on the most north-eastern part of the horizon.  Each extreme will showcase the shadow that the sun creates.Coffeepot Rock Coffeepot Rock is the perfect example to document.  It sits approximately 300º west-northwest in directly in front of my house. **The sun rises in the east at approximately 120º east-southeast on the Winter Solstice, which is the exact opposite of 300º. So the shadows show where the sun is on the horizon, each and every day it rises. Because Sedona gets around 300 days of sunshine, this can be documented a little more easily. Thunder MountainThunder Mountain sits directly behi...

Sedona Autumn ColorChronicling of the Japanese MapleAutumn Color - Chronicling The Japanese Maple from Rick & Sheri Sperry on Vimeo. These images were shot from October 29 to December 18th - around 7:30 am every morning in the Cottages At Coffeepot, Soldiers Pass West Sedona to chronicle the onset of the color of this Japanese Maple. Rick tried to shoot the image prior to sunrise to avoid a silhouette effect. As they scroll past quickly, you will see the weather that came through including the 5 inches of snow the day after Thanksgiving.  December 2nd and 3rd were the days of peak color.  You may also see the "fire bushes" start to turn red and watch the berries also change to a red color.    As a Coldwell Banker Sedona Arizona REALTOR®, my primary goal is to help my customers obtain th...

Cottages At Coffeepot Japanese MapleIt Won't Be Long!I knew this day would come eventually, but it is always hard to see this mighty Japanese Maple shed it's beautiful leaves this time of year. To me, it symbolizes that fall is almost over.  This year, we had a good run.  Usually, by Thanksgiving week the leaves are starting to shed or they are already gone.  Not this year.  I am thankful for the long run. Soon, I will have my husband put together a video that shows the progression of the change of color of the tree. I will continue to chronicle it until the tree is bare.  A Beautiful Blanket of Fall ColorThough it is hard to watch the tree go dormant for the winter, the color that is dropping right now is amazing and beautiful to see.  When I lived in California, a good Santa Ana wind ...

Sedona-Weather.com November 2019The Clock Was Set In MotionAt the end of October, the Cottages at Coffeepot received the first freeze.  There were 3 days in October and the first day of November that had low temps in the early morning all below freezing.  This set the clock in motion to get the process of color change in the leaves moving.  My assumption was that our Japanese Maple Tree would be bare well before Thanksgiving.  As of December, the tree is starting to shed but is still rather full!  This includes 5.5 inches of snow that fell on the branches and started to bend them due to the weight of the snow. (See pic below)Lots of Rain and SnowFortunately, the Cottages at Coffeepot in Soldiers Pass West Sedona we also received 5.58 inches of rain as well as snow bringing our year tota...

5 Plus Inches of Snow in Soldiers Pass West Sedona1st Snow Ever In November! Sedona Arizona - 5 inches from Rick & Sheri Sperry on Vimeo. Weather Gurus...Another first for Sedona! The weather gurus told us that we were in for a pretty good winter-type storm.  Over 3 days, Sedona was to get 3.45 inches of rain and 4 to 8 inches of snow. They revised the snow down to between 2 and 4 inches.  Two to 4 inches is nothing. Two Inches In One Hour!Well, when Rick woke up and looked outside it was coming down hard. There was already 3 inches on the ground. The branches on our trees, especially the Japanese Maple were sagging badly.  He went outside measured the snow, took some pics and got to work hitting snow off of the trees. It took him an hour.  When he went back to measure for additional s...

Loving Every Second of the Sedona LifestyleRick and I have lived full-time in Sedona since 2007.  We have seen a lot of changes just in the time we have lived here. Since the advent of social media, tourism has taken off. People see the beauty of this area and have to come to see Sedona for themselves. Sedona maintains a year-round population of approximately 10,000 people, but we have between two to four million visitors a year. Even with our tourism, Sedona enjoys a small-town atmosphere.  This is a big part of the Sedona lifestyle. Just as those living near the beach work around all the summer beachgoers, we know the best time to avoid traffic and visitors. Tourism is also the main source of revenue for our city.  So we must remember to be grateful for the business they bring to our...

Make Lemonade Out Of Lemons2 am Wake Up!A funny thing happened to me on the way to my well-planned open house. I planned my Kaibab listing to coincide with the REALTOR® Tour for West Sedona. I wanted to make a huge splash. So I got up on Wednesday at 2 am to slam it into the MLS so that I would make the deadline for homes on the tour on Thursday. We have until noon the day before to get our homes on-line for the tour. We have 4 tour sections, so each tour is once every 4 weeks. Where Is My Phone?I knew I would be busy that Wednesday morning with the Sedona Luxury Real Estate Professionals meeting, so I did not want to take any chances.  What I didn't count on was leaving my phone at home. YIKES!  My husband had to call another member to have them tell me. My phone was blowing up with c...

November 2019 -Thanksgiving Gratitude Challenge Debe Maxwell, CRS -Fall in Sedona - My Favorite Time of Year The Change Of Temperature Fall has always been a very special time of the year for me.  Even when I lived in California, I enjoyed the change in temperature. Sure, it was not a drastic change but we would go to "Apple Land" in Oak Glen to enjoy some seasonal change. We would visit the animal farm and enjoy some hot apple cider as we also enjoyed a piece of hot fresh apple pie. Yum Yum!It was an annual ritual.  We would bring back a gallon of the hard cider and also regular cider to enjoy the rest of the Thanksgiving season.  This was something to truly be thankful for! Fall Color - Sedona StyleAcross most of the United States, the leaves have fallen and the trees are bare or almo...

Sedona Double RainbowIt has been a while since I have seen a rainbow. We have not had a lot of rain so it only makes sense we would not get the opportunity to see a rainbow! This one actually had elements of a double rainbow. I also found it interesting the middle section was very light but both ends had great saturation.  It seems odd to me since the right side appeared to be in clear skies. Anyway, I always take seeing a rainbow as a good sign. This was two days ago and though we didn't see any measurable rain, everything was wet, also odd.  QuotesAnd when it rains on your parade, look up rather than down. Without the rain, there would be no rainbow. Gilbert Chesterton~ ~ ~I've always taken 'The Wizard of Oz' very seriously, you know.  I believe in the idea of the rainbow.  And I've ...

Winter is Coming in SedonaMake Sure You Have A Snow Shovel! Many areas of the country have already experienced their first snow. Here in the southwest and in Sedona Arizona, we still have time to prepare. The earliest I have seen a dusting of snow is the first week of December but you should be prepared for below freezing temps a week before Thanksgiving.  Remember the Sedona Winter of 2018-2019?El Nino was responsible for our extreme cold weather last winter, especially February. Sedona had 5 low-temperature readings below 20º with 11.2º the lowest temp so far this year. I am pretty sure this will hold as the lowest temperature for the rest of 2019.When I say "low temp", I am referring to the temperature that hits the lowest point for the day. Usually, this is in the early morning right...
