The Special Area of the Sedona Chapel in the Rocks   This video really helps to showcase not only the Chapel of the Holy Cross but the community that is immediately adjacent to it.   When was the Chapel Built? The Chapel of the Holy Cross sits on top of red rocks right off the SR 179. It was built in 1956 and that area has been known as the Chapel area ever since then.  The sculptor and local rancher, Marguerite Brunswig Staude was inspired by the architecture of the Empire State Building and wanted to build a church with that type of architecture in mind.  She worked with Lloyd Wright the son of Frank Lloyd Wright. She attempted to do this in Budapest but retreated back to her native land of Arizona at the outbreak of WWII. We are lucky she did! She built what she envisioned right here... 01/03/2020
