If you live in Scottsdale Arizona or are planning to visit the area this week you may want to check out the Old Fashioned Celebration that is planned for the Fourth of July. Scottsdale does not plan any fireworks, but instead they are hoping to bring a home town picnic atmosphere for people to enjoy. There are events planned that people "used to enjoy" such as eating contests, 3-legged races, sack races, tug-of-war, watermelon eating contests and more, The event runs from 5pm until 8pm. The Scottsdale Area Association of Realtors (SAAR) has approved a measure to donate 300 American flags to the Scottsdale Unified School District. The donation will help the district comply with a federal law requiring each classroom to display a flag by the end of July. After the approval the process of distributing the flags begin immediately.
