Our home is in Hidden Valley Ranch near the boundary with the Prescott National Forest. We sometimes have Mule Deer in our yard.  Incidentally, the climate in Prescott is not the same as in Phoenix or Tucson. Here is another. This one is obviously a little more mature. A few weeks ago I was in the yard with our dog, Beau. He looked up and spotted a deer about 50 feet away.  Normally he will instantly give chase. This time he went on-point like a bird dog. Both Beau and the deer were intently focused on each other. Next, to my astonishment, the deer picked up his front hoof and pointed right back at Beau.   I wish I could have taken a photo of this but I was not quick enough. Beau was not impressed by the pointing deer and immediately the chase was on. Yes, Prescott has Deer in the Tall ...

Hiking, Biking, Birdwatching, Horseback Riding, Fishing - Prescott, AZ I just found this wonderful video about recreational oppurtunities in Prescott, Arizona. It is produced by the Prescott Office of Tourism, so it is a little "salesy" but it still is a good video.   I have posted several articles about lakes in Prescott. Start here to see the overview of the lakes.

In the Prescott Area MLS there is a designation for "Recreation and Pines Areas." These are areas adjacent to and surrounded by The Prescott National Forest. Almost all the areas that are included in these areas were old mining claims that were made before the Prescott National Forest was established. All of these areas are mostly steep mountainsides and are covered with Ponderosa Pine Trees. The neighborhoods listed here are outside the city limits of Prescott but within the boundary of Yavapai County. Breezy Pines (680)  Breezy pines is most easily accessed from Poland Junction southeast of Prescott. Groom Creek (650)  Groom Creek is another area that was settled early on mining claims and homesteads. Senator Highway was the old stage line that went to Phoenix via Crown King. Senator ...

I have lately done some adjustments in my communications services. This relates to my experience here in Prescott but it may work in other areas, as well. CenturyLink aka Qwest - This company is the SAME OLD PHONE BELL SYSTEM COMPANY that I have hated for so long. They changed their name but their billing software is the same. They were providing my internet access on an ISDN line. I changed to CableOne for my High-Speed Internet. So far that looks like a good decision.  CableOne - I now subscribe to CableOne for high-speed internet and cable TV. My subscription also includes IP phone but I am not through arguing about that. My cable connection is not in the same room with a phone outlet, so the physical connection with the phone/cable modem is not practical. I am not through negotiatin...

Is anyone paying per click for long tail posts? Many keywords that are intended to reach to the "long tail" can reach the right audience by having good SEO design. Of course, that is the preferred method but there may be other ways of getting the traffic up. One of the advantages of bringing traffic into the long tail topics is that it PROFILES the viewers so they are already interested in the subject matter. The farther out on the long tail the keywords and subject material is, the more focused the viewer is on being interested in the material. I can see a strategy wherein site visitors are "funneled" off to specific long tail posts from more general posts by providing links to the long tail posts in the more general pages. Quite a while ago, near the end of 2009, I made an AR post tit...

I have noticed a difference between easterners and westerners -- speaking quite generally, of course. My family on both sides were pioneers in the truest sense. My great grandparents (several of them) were early settlers in Nebraska and actually lived in a dugout while my great grandmother taught school in a one-room schoolhouse. They later moved to Oklahoma during the land runs, actually recording titles for the people who made their run for the land. Aside:  Do you know what a "Boomer" and a "Sooner" were? Another great grandfather had a general store in SW Oklahoma. He offered credit to the homesteaders who really needed it. He ended up taking title to some nice land when the homesteaders gave up during the days of the dust bowl. Most of my family are 100% opportunity-oriented. I am ...

One of the challenges that I sometimes have is with Potential Buyers who may move here from states mostly to the east of Arizona. Many of them have expectations that land costs/prices will be similar to those where they presently are. Prescott is a PREMIUM place to live. Most - over 80% of the land in Yavapai County - is Public Land. Prescott is bounded on the south and west by the Prescott National Forest. Here is a map that shows the land use in the Prescott Area within Yavapai County. In this map, the yellow shows privately held land. The light green on the south and west side of Prescott is the Prescott National Forest. The darker green with the label Williamson Valley over it is a national monument. The light blue marks Arizona State Trust land. The little bit of pink is BLM land. ...

I have lately been using Google Earth and Google Maps to show off my land listings. Here are a couple of images from Google Earth that illustrate a listing that I have in Wikutepa which is in Williamson Valley north of Prescott, Arizona. Notice the shadows change from one image to another.   The image above was made with the simulated time of day set at 4:00 pm. The image below is made at the simulated time of 9:04 AM. See the listing page for this property here. I am very interested in sharing ideas among Active Rain members. Please share your ideas and comment on your experiences on Google Earth and Google Maps. I got a call on Thursday as a direct result of a blog post about finding properties in rural neighborhoods near Prescott and Prescott Valley, Arizona. Here is the blog post that generated the phone call:   Finding a Rural Neighborhood or Home for Horses in Prescott Valley, AZ They told me that they called me specifically because it appeared that I know the area and know specifically what they needed. The husband and wife who called me put me on speakerphone immediately and explained what they wanted.  They told me they had been searching in the Prescott area but "are not finding what we want." They also told me that they read the article and liked my map and the listing of the neighborhoods. Here is a summary of their requirements: Vacant Lot suitable for horses 10 acres or more Not in ...

Scenic Views Await in Prescott There are many fantastic opportunities for real estate in Prescott, Arizona. The city, located in central Arizona in Yavapai County, boasts a population of 39,843 and is the county seat. With the friendly motto “Welcome to Everybody’s Hometown,” there are a lot of reasons to consider moving to this wonderful city! I have used a Droid X smartphone for about two years now. I like it except for one small detail: Both are WAY SMARTER than I am. I just got an Android tablet, the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 and that requires another extensive learning experience. Does anyone know how to synchronize my phone and my g-mail so there is a common database or contact manager that will allow me to connect the e-mail records and the phone records. It seems to me that the applications are there but my problem is one of not having the learning experience to know how to connect them. I have just installed Sugarsync on my main laptop and started to use it. Helping me get this done may be a consulting opportunity for someone in the area of Prescott, Arizona.

The center of this area is Williamson Valley Road. This road, also know as Yavapai County Road 5, starts at Iron Springs Road in Prescott and runs all the way to Seligman, Arizona on Interstate Highway 40. This area is bordered roughly on the west by The Prescott National Forest and on the east by Chino Valley. Most of these neighborhoods have a limited presence of Ponderosa Pine trees but many have some Pinon Pines.  Some of the neighborhoods have granite boulders and granite outcroppings. Granite Mountain is a quite picturesque and dominant part of the scenery here. It lies within The Prescott National Forest and is now a national monument. There are many miles of equestrian and hiking trails in the area around Granite Mountain. If a property has a view of Granite Mountain, our Presco...
