Juliette Magill Kinzie Gordon was born in Savannah, Georgia back in 1860 to William and Elanor. When she was six months old her father joined the Confederate States Army in the American Civil War. When she was four the family moved to thunderbolt, Georgia. In 1865, the family moved again to Chicago. As a young child she was accident-prone suffering numerous injuries and illnesses. She suffered from frequents earaches and recurring bouts of malaria. She spent her time pursuing art and poetry, she also performed plays and started a newspaper called The Malbone Bouquet.
