Today I had the pleasure of visiting with Emily Dickinson...sort of. At the Enthios Art Venue here in Eureka Springs ,Arkansas my friend Marv Jonason produced the The Belle of Amherst, A One Woman Play originally adapted by Williiam Luce. Emily Dickinson was deftly portrayed by Lauren Owen-Scutari. You may know that the setting is Amherst, MA in 1883. The play transports you immediately and although you never see the rest of the Dickinsons in this one woman play, you leave knowing them very well. The Enthios is such a cool place. The multi purpose arts facility can accomomdate almost any type of event. The theater was set up today for about 30 folks and there was not a bad seat in the house.                My favorite time of day is morning. Give me the promise of a new day, a fresh start and another chance to get it right. I promise I'll grow with the challenge of it. I promise I'll find the grace and the good it has to offer, and share it, too. This is the morning view into the woods from my back yard in Eureka Springs, AR. Yes, that's the sun coming up over the Ozarks. That's also the edge of 38  acres of woods that make our back yard into a veritable game preserve. That little valley is called a hollow or a'holler' as the locals might say. That hollow is not just full of indigenous flora and fauna. It's also full of cool stuff like a waterfall and limestone bluffs and I bet you could find and American Indian artifact or two. This is Eureka Springs, AR where about 30 yea...

Just outside of Eureka Springs, Arkansas there is a place called Inspiration Point. Last evening as I made my way through these Ozark hills at sunset I caught a glimpse of the view pictured below. I had to pull off the highway thinking no wonder they call it Inspiration Point. Is it any wonder? You are looking north and west from a stop along highway 62 in Eureka Springs, AR. This  is the White River Valley just below Beaver Dam. The mighty White River became the source of 5 lakes in a chain of lakes created by the Army Corp of Engineers back in the 1950s. The lakes brought vitality to a region that needed it badly. Before the White River Valley project this was a much less inhabited part of the world. Jobs were scarce and you were a long way from any large population center, but never ...

It was April of 1981. I left my winter bartending job in Key West to follow a friend from west Texas on an adventure to the northwest corner of Arkansas. He knew of a unique Victorian era spa town, 'you gotta see this place'. It was to be a short trip between my winter and summer employment. I would leave Arkansas and head for Portsmouth in two weeks. Summers in Portsmouth, NH and winters in Key West, FL., not too hard to take. No need to shake things up to drastically, or so I thought. I was 23 years old, accustomed to idea that the world was my oyster.  Freedom was the order of every day. I figured I'd enjoy seeing the Ozarks. I knew nothing of the middle of the country. A kid from Maine I thought Arkansas was way out west. I pictured the dust bowl, corn, wheat... and a few things les...

You may have heard me mention these two, they are Sammy and Lil our Boston Terriers. The usually fiesty Sammy is in the fore ground looking like a kid who really needs a nap. Lily is about 12 years old and she is the calm one as rule. They were catching a little sun coming in to the livingroom and got suddenly very mellow. These two have really eased the pain of the otherwise empty nest for M. and I.                      cedwards@ersells.com serving your real estate needs in Bentonville, Rogers and Eureka Springs, Arkansas

There is so much conversation  about the current real estate market that focuses on when the market will rebound. How much does it really matter though? Why does it matter and to whom?  Are you interested in making real estate a wealth builder or are you riddled with fear over timing. Every type of market has it's advantages and disadvantages for investors. The beat goes on, savvy investors keep looking regardless. Need inspiration? Here is a how to guide from a small time investor in small town America that is not a rocket scientist: Trust me when I tell you I'm a person who is averse to risk. The small real estate investments I have made have been very carefully calculated. Yours should be too. I have adhered almost exclusively to the 1% rule since buying the first of several properti...

Mid boom guy here. I was born in 1950's although I look much younger I know. I grew up listening to the Beach Boys. You may recall one of their hits that said 'catch a wave and you're sitting on top of the world'. Well it happened this morning. I was on the sofa, coffee on the left, laptop in lap, plate on the right with toasted homemade bread, organic cherry jam on top. This is the good life I'm living after all. I was of course looking over blogs. That is when the wave hit as it does somewhere along the way every Holiday season. I always know when it hits. It comes over me from the top of my head, down into my heart and soul through to the tips of my toes. It is the Holiday Spirit like a wave. It will carry me a long way, way past January 1, 2011 well into the new year heart over flow...

An announcement made on October 13, 2010 names Spring St. in Eureka Springs, Arkansas  one of America's top ten streets. I hope you'll check out the link below and read about the ten streets so honored. If you've read my blog you know that I'm bullish on this northwest Arkansas town I've called home since April of 1981. The entire downtown of Eureka Springs is on the National Register of Historic Places. Many buildings on Spring St are built of native limestone quarried just a few miles away. Tourism is the driving force here in this circa 1880 spa town. It just so happens that my wife M. and I have a 25 year old specialty retail store located on Spring St. the storefront is pictured below. Life here is a celebration of small town America that we have grown to love CLAYTON > Wydown na...

Here is just one more fall foliage scene from the northwest Arkansas Ozarks. After a dry summer in general, a bit of fall rain appears to have made the way for some vibrant color after all. The old timers like to speculate about what the ingredients are for 'just right' fall color. Others of us care not how it is, just that it is. Like so much of life we take it on faith. It's fall we'll have color. It's morning the sun will come up. I love it here, others wll love it too. I know! I can sell this. This place is terrific. So it goes. Our actions follow our beliefs.  We believe in the world around us and it returns the favor after all.

I had a great drive home from the office this evening. Just me, with the nearly setting sun in my rear view mirror and the very full moon rising ahead of me. Twenty miles of my 40 mile drive are over a winding two lane highway. The moon appears as I wind along, through the trees as a back drop turning the foliage to gold backed filigree. Then again as the golden guide high above me. There is an austere beauty to the sparsely populated wilderness here on the Ozarks Plateau. The darkness of night, lit only by nature. The peaceful days where the quiet is beautiful.

I hope you'll take a deep breath and relax for a minute or two and take in a fall scene from Eureka Springs, Arkansas. I snapped this with my droid as I headed down Rockhouse Rd. Friday morning leaving south from Eureka Springs. Every once in a while I drive out this way either to visit a friend, showproperty or just enjoy the tunnel of green and sunlight on the way to the beautiful Kings River. The canopy in northwest Arkansas is magnificent. The earth is covered with trees. Any walk in the wild woods here is a bit of a challenge. The brush left to its own grows thick and viney in our relatively long warm growing season.                      Out Rockhouse you can still find acres and acres of peace and quiet. The hills allow for some scenic vistas here and there overlooking Kee...

Years ago someone shared this with me and it changed me. You might say it moved me. In fact it moved me in concentric circles. If I knew who said it first I'd share that name but I do not. Maybe you will know and share the original source. If you have not thought of life in this way it might move you too. Now, I'm not pretending to be Dr. Phil okay. But take a few and consider this. I think it's more than psychobabble...I think it is a practical helpful way to approach life whether you're picking peas of performing brain surgery, or selling real estate.                                                   We face situations and circumstances everyday that reveal the different stages of progress we've made in our lives on any given subject. We are pursuing personal growth right? Think pa...

In case you have not had a trip to the country in a while, here is a picture of Beaver Lake in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. This is near the end of the cove in Hogscald Hollow, part of the lake that is attractive to buyers because the cove is narrow and few motor boats venture here. Beaver Lake boasts 36,000 acres of surface, great water quality and of course some awesome fishing. The bluffs in the area are spectacular. Bald eagles and blue Herons are never far away. Deer, wild turkey and other wildlife abound as well.

Unless you're Shirley MacLaine you only live once so go for it! (No offense to Ms. MacLaine) That  being said, you have my permission to GO FOR IT! Sky dive. Laugh outloud more often. Buy that better bottle of wine. Take the upgrade to the concierge level.                                                           Stay longer at lunch with your friends. Go ahead rent the convertible next time. Buy your significant other roses, just because you can. Celebrate the small wins, not just the big ones. Here in Eureka Springs we have been celebrating the centennial of our wonderful Carnegie Public Library. One of the ways our community has participated in the celebration is by voting for favorite books. We now know which one hundred books Eurekans like the best. Hundreds of folks participated in the voting and it was fun! The list is interesting and impressive.                                         Please come back I miss you. I miss our long evenings together. I miss your warmth..they way you beckoned me to come outside and spend time with you. I liked the early mornings with you too, the way you arrived early and stayed late. I like how you belonged to everyone but were special to me nonetheless...                                              I really didn't mind that you dressed mostly in one color, although several shades. I'm glad we had our 100 days together of bright light, short nights, dragonflies, cicadas, crickets and treefrogs. Together. I'm not ready for the cold shoulder, the white blanket, the stark and bare... Please. Sweet summer, come back.
