Birmingham Barons are playing for the championship.  Do you have your tickets yet?   Located in Hoover Alabama is the wonderful Regions Park stadium - home to the Birmingham Barons Baseball team.  If you have not been to a game, you NEED to go. Did you know that over 250,000 people have attended Barons games this year?  The Barons have drawn record crowds (over 250,000) for 21 years straight. Why is that?  1. The games are a great place to take the family.  The tickets are reasonably priced - general admission tickets (first come, first served seating) are only $6.00 each and all the seats have good views.  Reserved seats (also a bit more comfortable) are $8-$12. And by the way, Military personal get a $1 discount.  There is a play park, so if the kids get bored, they have something to ...

The other day, I was talking with a person who is Moving to the Birmingham Alabama area from out of town.  The topic of golf came up and they were amazed at what Birmingham had to offer. Did you know that there are over 40 golf courses in and around Birmingham?  Some are public, including the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley and others are private.  To get a shapshot of the courses available click here. When I was growing up in Massachusetts, my Dad, who loved to play golf, used to play with orange golf balls several months out of the years because there was snow on the ground and it was hard to find that little white ball in the snow. The weather here, though, is perfect for golf most of the year. If you like to golf, I'd say you could plan to play everyday.  Yesterday it...

Hoover Alabama - A City of Parks I love trees and I love to be outdoors (except for those really hot days of summer).  Spring and Fall are incredible - clear days, moderate temperatures AND plenty of places to hike, picnic and spend time with your family outdoors. Summer mornings before 9:00 are also quite a treat. Hoover is home to the Moss Rock Preserve and Aldredge Botanical Gardens.  These are world class parks that attract visitors from all over the state.  Aside from these, Hoover supports 5 Community Parks and 3 Neighborhood Parks. Today I was at the Howard Lake Park.  This Community Park is located right next to the Hoover Municipal Building and across the street from the Hoover Library and the Hoover Recreation Center. I guess this would be called Hoover's downtown park.  There...

Located in both Jefferson and Shelby County, Hoover, Alabama sits, ever expanding as a growing community. Named after William H. Hoover, a local business owner, Hoover, Alabama was incorporated in 1967 and has grown ever since. For instance, Hoover now is home for the Birmingham Barons, Birmingham Alabama's minor league Baseball team at Region's Park and The Hoover Galleria, one of the largest shopping centers and multi-use complexes in the South East at over 2 million square feet. Friday nights in Hoover, in the fall, become an exciting time like many other places. It's Football season, and in Alabama, football ranks high in importance. The Hoover City School system has two high schools, one of these schools is Spain Park High School. Spain Park High School is looking to follow up last...

Over the last week, I've had a lot of people ask me about the New Tax Credit.  This was part of the housing bill that President Bush signed at the end of July.  As with any new bill, it takes a while to figure out all the kinks.   Good news is, if you are a first time home buyer (and a 1st time home buyer is defined as someone who hasn't owned a home in the last 3 years), then you can qualify for a $7,500 TAX CREDIT on your 2008 or 2009 taxes.  I tax credit is better than a deduction because it is subtracted directly from the amount of tax you owe. The credit works on a primary residence that you purchase between April 10, 2008 and June 30, 2009.  The tax credit is actually 10% of the purchase price, so if the house only cost $65,000, you would only receive $6,500.   There is nothing ...

Now that school is back in session in Hoover, Alabama our thoughts will be turning to football.  Well, not EVERYONE here is totally focused in football.  At the Shades Mountain Park the fall ball registration has just been completed - that's BASEBALL.  Fall ball games are played on Sunday afternoons at Shades Mountain Park.  Games will begin after Labor Day and run through the end of October.  Fall Ball is not as competitive as the spring season and is a great time for kids who have never played before to learn some skills.  OF course there are those who can't LIVE without baseball and this is a wonderful time for them to keep up their skills. Both my sons have played ball at Shades Mountain - the adult volunteers care about the kids and the fields are well maintained.  When my oldest w...

I have a Home for Sale in Hoover Alabama and the other day a prospective buyer was looking at it and wanted to know if she could put up a fence.  The property has a beautiful view and a wooded privacy fence would really ruin it.  Some people though, must have a fence.  Pets are a common reason for erecting a fence and the new electric fences have been a great addition to the fencing world. In this case the family has two dogs that they say WILL NOT stay in one of those electric fences. The first thing to do before putting up a fence is to check with the restrictions of the subdivision.  If the subdivision has restrictions, chances are they will address the fence issue.  Many subdivisions require the placement and materials of the fence be approved by the architectural control committee....
