HOW DO WE HANDLE REAL ESTATE IN 14 DEGREE BELOW ZERO WEATHER?With a pick ax of course! This is just an example of a home sale where, in 14 degrees BELOW zero temperatures, our real estate sign needed to be taken down. We use large steel bases and heavy 4 x 4 posts for our signs so even on a good day they take some muscle. The steel base works great to keep the signs in place with any wind but, with the snow and ice built up at driveway corners, we tend to have to break them loose this time of year (hence the pick ax and the 'here's Johnny' face).Just another example of some of the extremes we go through to 'get the job done' for you! In case the temperature scared you a little, we recently went to Montana and it was 27 below zero. Gold Mining in Alaska, with a Pretty Girl  When going gold mining, some men bring along huge machines, large crews and all the trimming that their debt will allow, but not me I am happy to bring along a pretty girl. It is fun sitting on a log with a view of Mount McKinley just outside of Talkeetna watching my girl play in the water of the Susitna River.   I was not planning to do any gold mining while on my Alaska trip in pursuit of some timber land, but the pans were sitting there in Walmart inviting me on a little diversion.   Today as I sit here watching Sally pan for gold, and panning a bit myself, I am glad that I took an afternoon off to seek a bit of the metal that brought a rush of people to this great land.  We did not find any gold, but it was fun playing in the water with my ... 11/15/2015

Time For a Little Trip, care to join us? Forests of the Mat-Su Valley.   Though much of Alaska is fairly barren of good forest land, there are other areas with immense forests. The Mat-Su Valley in South Central Alaska is one of the better areas with extensive forests growing on good soils, fueled with moderate climate and ample moisture We encountered plenty of this moisture as we did a little tromping through the forests. Most of the forests that we encountered in this area were rather consistent with miles and miles of White Birch and Spruce. Both of which are good trees, though they are short lived species, and most of the stands that we encountered were far past their lifespans, at least for a healthy forest. Time For a Little Trip, care to join us? A few sights on the way to Camp. After leaving the Portage Glacier we headed north towards the forests that we are here to check out. But before getting too far north we made a few stops in Anchorage to pickup supplies and do a bit of touristing. Santa was not in when we stopped by so we visited with one of his reindeer instead. Next Sally met a very big fellow who seemed to be made of stone. A replica of the cairn type trail markers often found in some of the rugged parts of the state that are too harsh for trees or much of anything other than rocks and ice. Next we met this fellow who appears to be hopelessly lost, somebody should really tell him that this is black and brown bear country, his friends and relatives seldom get south of the tundra... 10/09/2014
