On Sunday the 9th of January, I wrote a post about an artist we saw on the beach.  He was painting the picture you see in the photo above.  Ron asked if he was doing it for fun, or for a living.  He told us it was for a living and for fun.  He was not quite done with the gloved hand, and we saw him putting the final touches as we left.  Yesterday, we stopped at Albertson's to pick up Quincy's new favorite food.  Ron pulled me aside and showed me the time magazine!  What a great manifestation to have seen in its pre-published form!I am hoping we see him again, so that we can congratulate him!  We love seeing artists succeed.  A

“The Answer is better than the Question” A property manager of single-family residence was showing a unit to prospective tenants and asking the usual questions. "Professionally employed?" he asked."We're a military family," the wife answered."Children?""Oh, yes, ages nine and twelve," she answered proudly."Animals?""Oh, no," she said earnestly. "They're very well behaved."

Airthings Corentium Home Digital Radon DetectorJanuary is National Radon Action Month. EPA and the U.S. Surgeon General recommend that all homes in the U.S. be tested for radon. Montgomery County, Maryland has been designated as a Zone 1 area which means there is a predicted average radon level at or above the EPA's 4.0 pico-Curies per liter (pCi/L) action level. (pCi/L is a measure of the amount of radioactivity in a known quantity of air.)  I purchased a Airthings Corentium Home Digital Radon Detector for our home. It is an easy to use device for home use. "The top rated and best selling digital radon detector on the market. Easily monitor radon levels in your home with this compact yet powerful radon gas detector." The Airthings price is $179.99. I purchased it on Amazon for $135.90 ...

SUN DOGSI've written about this phenomena before but it's been awhile and those who have never lived in a Northern climate may not have ever heard of sun dogs before.Sun Dogs, they are bright and beautiful BUT you don't really want to see them. The short story is that they are like little rainbow explosions but instead of moisture in the air (which causes rainbows) these are created by ice in the air and they only show up in sub-zero temperatures. We started out our day with the temperature around 30 degrees above zero but it plummeted all day long to below zero. Currently as I write this the "feels like" temp is -29 degrees. When you see sun dogs they are pretty but you may want to head South or at least head for a nice warm blanket.

Image Source If you're considering buying a home for the first time, congratulations! You've made an excellent financial decision, and there's nothing like the feeling of owning your own home. When it comes to what you can expect for your down payment, there are many factors that will affect how much it could be. Let's dive in for a better understanding. Determine How Much You Can AffordIf you're a first-time home buyer, the initial step toward determining what your down payment will be is figuring out how much you can afford in terms of monthly mortgage payment and overall home price. Many people use a home affordability calculator to help determine this, and it's a great tool to help you get started. To use an affordability calculator, be prepared to enter information such as your ann...

Ask An Ambassador: Tuesday Techie Tidbit - Spell Check Advances Every Ask An Ambassador: Tuesday Techie Tidbit post is a BRAVO to the developers working so diligently at ActiveRain. Spell Check Advances are one of the best new offerings on the Blog Editor.NOW a word not spelled correctly has the squiggly red line underneath! So easy to spot what needs to be reviewed! The earlier Blog Editor looked like this:                Note the "ABC" Without the graphic color signal, one had to check every post to see if any thing was wrong. Kind of like asking someone how to spell a word and then getting the response "Go look in the dictionary."  Hard to do if you don't know the spelling! As of January 2022, the Blog Editor sported a streamlined new look:            No more "ABC" With the technical b...

This is going to be a very interesting challenge for me.  And to frame things I need to step back to personal computing. I started with Sears in 1971 and by 1977, I was personnel manager of a large store in White Plains, NY.  One of my responsibilities was to create a payroll cost projection each month for the store operations executive who was responsible for send the profit flash up the line.  I would have to go through a book that has the personnel of every department and update it each month with terminations, new hires, and wage changes, also projecting the part time hours that would be used and so forth.  Everyone in my position in every store dreaded this.  With calculators and tapes, it took up to three days a month which I was able to cut to two.Fast forward to a different comp...

This article is IDEAL… for a person who is having the blues, not having the best of things going on in their life, just experienced, a huge loss, like death or divorce. Get a pad of paper to test this idea, of life is far better than you think. Did you get the paper? Well, how can you expect something to be far better than you think when you don’t even follow the directions. Look at winners in athletics! In the Olympics, the person follows their coaches’ instructions, and they practice like the coach tells them to. And they win, if they do not, they do not win.  Have you got the paper now? There is the temptation to end this article and begin a second time until you get that pad of paper, but we will continue now.  If you are over the age of twenty-six years make a list of positive time...

Denver has a lot of things that make it a fantastic place to start a business. The cost of living is low, and there is a thriving economy with many high-paying jobs. There are also many universities nearby, which provide great opportunities for research and development. Tens of thousands of people move to Denver every year, so the city is constantly growing and changing. It is also extremely easy to get around in Denver because the streets are well organized and there is so much public transportation. The best part about Denver is the city's vibrant cultural scene. There are lots of museums, theaters, music venues, galleries and restaurants to check out. In addition, Denver has lots of gorgeous parks and two beautiful mountains that are located within the city limits.Denver is a great p...
