I see the value in how you do it Roy Kelley,  but I only follow people when they post something that genuinely inspires me to follow them. This is my personal feeling, I do not judge how others decide to follow blogs:

I’ve always reserved “following” for people whose blogs I actually intend to revisit from time to time. For me, it’s not just a courtesy click. It means I’m interested in what they have to say and want to keep reading.

I don't follow new people every day, but often I will follow 5 new people a day.  Honestly, I think that I am going to start unfollowing people, haha.  So many of the people I follow are not at all active, so what is the point of even following them?  Also, there aren't a great many people in here even worth following.  The people who want to get to know me and interact are the ones I want to follow.  Those who never interact with me- why should I even care what they have to say?

No I don't do that. I look at blog post titles for all posters, even those I'm not following and if I do see someone who is writing quality material, I'll follow them. Otherwise, I don't.

I don't... I spend more time unfollowing people who don't contribute much or at all and who never communicate or interact back with me. I follow people who interact with me and people who post things of interest that are well written.

Habit?  No but I do agree with growing our circle.  But if they drop off and don't stay engaged,  I question my results  I prefer quality over quantity.
