I think most companies quit selling it years ago. The cost of assisted living and nursing homes got so high that premiums had to be raised so high that most people couldn't afford it. You might want to consider talking to a financial planner. There are assisted living facilities in this area now charging over $10,000.00 per month. People are being forced to choose to die at home. Even hiring a traveling nurse to come in a few days a week is too expensive for many people.

I have asked Rachel if she's interested. She has been my CPA, Enrolled Agent and Financial Advisor for over 16 years - and she's a Buffini & Company member and friend. I actually DJ'd her wedding before I retired from that career!

I wish I did know, and wish that we had signed up my mom a long time ago. We like many others thought that the big chuck of money coming out of our paychecks was insurance to cover long term care when we got old.

Long-term care is very costly. After my spouse died, a Financial Planner (he came to the funeral) got a hold of me during a vulnerable time in my life. He sold me on lots of insurance plans. I think there are insurance plans for any concern a prospective buyer inquiries about
Because my kids were young, and we didn't buy life insurance, I bought them. I was approached by an "ambulance chaser," and I was stupid. He had no mercy or feelings for me and my kids - his only interest was selling insurance policies! This is what I discovered, the premiums continued to rise every year. At first there were subtle changes, then they rose so quickly I quit. If you don’t pay, they can cancel your policy. After buying the policies, no insurance agent ever contacted me to review my policies. Costs may be low and you think you need. But then when you find yourself in the hospital, like I did, I wasn’t in the hospital long enough to get the benefits! The original policy kept sending amendments and many clauses for protection were eliminated.
There are words in the policy a policy owner doesn’t know and many of those words change over time or don’t mean what the policyowner thinks it means.
If I had to do it all over again, I would have put my money in an IRA and saved to benefit me and not the damn insurance companies.

Kat Palmiotti call Brett Carlisle with Blue Chip Insurance. 980-431-2233. Tell him you got his name from Nina Hollander with Coldwell Banker in Charlotte. He knows his stuff and if he isn't the right person for long term care, he will know someone, I'm sure.
