I can think of a couple that should be eliminated Peter Mohylsky but I don't want to get on the bad side of some by mentioning which ones.

Not enough - as for national holidays, don't mess with it. It never turns out well.

I'm taking the day off.  That ought to count for something!  Especially with all the projects I have in the queue.

Too many.  But the Federal Government employees will never give up their days off.   

   And which Holiday or Holidays would get deleted?  Many of these Days Off are created by special interest groups (e.g., Juneteenth), and if you dare to criticize those holidays, you will be called all sorts of unpleasant names.

  We are stuck with the current roster of holidays (at least 11, depending upon who is counting), and nothing is going to change it.

Peter Mohylsky - Yes! My community is actively celebrating Labor Day weekend. I think all our National Holidays should be the original days with the original meanings for that special holiday. If I could add one more, I would propose one more very special National Holiday on September 11th, definitely NOT a combination between Labor Day and the one I am about to propose:

NATIONAL 9/11 AMERICAN DAY. This would be to honor the deceased from the Towers, all the Firefighters, Police, Responders, including Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Nurses, Doctors, Pilots, Flight Attendants, Victims killed in all of the planes, Transportation Specialists, the Food Vendors who fed the injured, tired, and weak, American Patriots and Journalists who went to war, willing to serve, Chaplains, Undertakers who buried the dead, and ALL AMERICAN CITIZENS. 

Yes to making a holiday special & not just to do them for silly reasons etc.

I just checked and I don't see anything special going on in my town for Labor Day and this isn't really one we celebrate in my house! As for the holidays, they are what they are, and I celebrate the ones I agree with and ignore the ones I don't care about.

Here it is the last hurrah of Summer before the CA River Rats go home and get the kids back in school. The locals celebrate by lying low until they do. Then for the next two months until the snowbirds arrive the town is ours! I think we have way too many holidays. Some of the ones added recently are batshit and I ignore them with an eyeroll. 🙄

I believe there is one, maybe two holidays we need to take out with the trash! 

As for celebrating ...it may be happening - yet I celebrate privately - not one for crowds or big public events. 

Labor Day is not celebrated except it's a day off work. There are too many "official" holidays. The following comment is not necessarily the opinion of the writer...lol Keep

Keepers - New Year's, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas (none of this, if it falls on a Saturday or Sunday stuff).

Depends on your perspective. The boss thinks there are too many, the employees think there aren’t enough.

The lake is slammed today, fireworks last night, so yes.

And I like a monthly holiday.

Kind of a last hurrah of summer.  I dont celebrate it, however the tourism industry around here does.

I feel as though Labor Day as a holiday is a Yawn.  It doesn't seem to hold much meaning anymore.  It's just a day off work to most people.

I work every day usually, when it is a holiday I just work less. I had a listing appointment this labor Monday and it went well:) 

They give people a chance to pause, reflect, and connect, which feels more needed than ever these days.
