As Jim Rohn used to say -

"It's not too expensive, you just can't afford it."

He wasn't being sarcastic, he meant "afford" is in the perception of the income earner. The better the income the more affordable things become. True, i.e. my current house cost 4.5 x what my first house cost.

Well if I want something I get it....it's a simple as that.  I'm just happy I don't spend like a mad woman on coffee!!  LOL  But really.....we donate and give probably way more than we spend on us.  Except for our little guy Norman - he deserves whatever treats he wants he's so darn cute!!

I would have said housing in some areas of the Country.  Insurance in Colorado is crazy.    Beef has gone up in price, but still buy it.    Cars have gotten more expensive, but we do need them.

It not that I can't afford it, I just that I can't justify the price. Cars, restaurants, food and clothes come to mind. Then again being retired I don't long for anything.

  Coffee.  

 

  A small coffee at the franchise coffee shop is $3.00 or $4.00

 

  A bag of coffee at the grocery store is $12 on sale, $15 or more regular price.  And it's not a pound of coffee, it is twelve ounce.

 

  The only good coffees are Jamaica Blue Mountain and Kona Peaberry. 

Jamaica Blue Mountain is almost unobtainable (beware of many fakes!). 

 

Kona Peaberry from Heavenly Hawaii or Pele Plantations is closing in on $100 per pound shipped (at least it's a real 16 ounce pound).

   Nope, I gave it up.  My wife still drinks it, but she's a one cup per day person, so it doesn't break the bank.

We don't buy a lot of things outside of the Whole Foods store. It seems the price of bread we buy from there has tripled compared to 5 years ago, and some of the breads have disappeared - we liked Prussian Rye, it is no longer available. Gas startled me the other day - $88 to fill up the tank. Hairstyling services at a good salon with nice, botanical products have gone up, a lot.
