 Points are great.  I am excited to be near the top of the Leaderboard for Florida, and for my county and city.   

  But do the points increase SEO for your website or your blog posts?  Does the buying and selling public know (or care) about ActiveRain points and the ActiveRain Leaderboard?

   It's like hitting 1,000,000 points on your favorite pinball machine or your favorite video game.  It's exciting to get there... but how much time and effort should be expended to stay there?

Yes! I think anyone who says they aren't is only fooling themselves. I really want to get to the first page of the Leaderboard KAREN SANCHEZ . It was easy to grab the top spot in North Dakota as there are few to compete with but to make page one overall is a huge challenge. I'm #57 right now.

They mattered but once I had over 500K and became free, I wasn't as interested in them. To be honest, I am #1 in my current state in terms of points. If I wasn't, though, I might be trying to get there and in that case would be more concerned about the points. Not that you get a prize or anything for being first, but my competitive nature would have just demanded that I keep going!

not anymore, but they once did.  Now I'm here for the people I enjoy here.

They only really mattered until I earned enough points for a free account. Then they kind of mattered until I reached 1 million points. After that, not so much. I had to go an look at my current points for this answer... around 5.5 million... but it's not like I can spend them!

I'll admit that I'm excited about closing in on a million points! I guess it's that competitor in me... 

Points are more important for some members than for others. Consumers are not making selections based on points. So, they have no real value.

I would be okay with me to eliminate the points and the Leaderboard.

yes and no.  It is a nice metric to gauge my activity.  but am I expecting it to bump my business.  not,  A mark of recognition, daily activity, etc. etc.

Once I reached 500K (and alleviated my obligation to pay dues to AR), I stopped checking my point total.

I honestly had to look since you asked. It took me about fourteen years to reach the 500,000, I did not pay for an account. if I did have to, I would probably had left. I joined because the knowledge and the people in the Rain.

It will probably take me another 15 years to reach 1,000,000. Like Fred Griffin Florida Real Estate  said, the consumer doesn't care. I do not get leads from the Rain, just good old conversations and great minds. Knowledge is power😁

I am in the corner with Alan May and Tammy Lankford, once you hit 500,000 it's the comaraderie here that becomes special.

No. I've been here basically since the beginning. I cannot think of a single time where the amount of points I had translated into a commission check.

Now my blogs have drawn clients and referrals but that was because of the community and at that time Google juice was a lot stronger.

The only people that points should matter to are the ones trying to attain a free public account, old members were grandfathered into. So that I understand.

It's not even near priority for me.

The points are subjective as to value & appreciation KAREN SANCHEZ ...& you are doing what can be done with them so keep up the good work that they reference. Long have RAINERS thought of a point redemption, a medal, a ribbon or T-Shirt or ??? but so far, no cigar. Regarding your "NEVER" use of the word, NEVER say NEVER dear lady...

No points mean nothing to me.  Except I enjoy opening  the AR Point Store from time to time so our members can use their points to buy fake stuff!!

They can be motivating, especially when you see the results of doing point generating activities translating into more clients.

Not at this point, getting to 500K was a big deal, then even a million, then being first in Colorado.   Not so much now.

The points are not the point. I want to learn, share and grow my business and knowledge, experiences. To find out what works and does not and why. That's what I am after on Active Rain KAREN SANCHEZ.

Active Rain is a think tank, a place to say hey, I'm having a problem with (fill in the blank) and what's everyone else's experience? Then everyone chimes in like group therapy one by one. You and I are in the same real estate trenches real World.

Active Rain is very diverse, all stages and ages of new just starting out and seasoned veterans thrown together in the real estate classroom. You are bound to learn and improve if you tap into the knowledge and if show up to class.

Good points about points Karen. Another point that I would like to point out is that accumulating points is pointless from a revenue accumulationg perspective but can help point us in the right direction in increasing our real estate knowledge. This is besides the point if you gather many points by writing public blogs, and not to just other Realtors, as one will get leads from the public at the same time they are gathering points on Active Rain. Of course blogging with other REALTORS can help us get pointed in the right direction.

They used to matter more to me than they do today.  I have 1.556m points and I'm #137 on the overall leaderboard, #20 for California, I've been #1 in my county for ages, and I've been #1 in my city since maybe a month after I started going for points (#2 has 52,000 points).

I cared about the 500,000 mark and I got there in a year.  I kept it going for quite some time after that until I got burned out from chasing points like they mattered in the real world.  It's also gotten a LOT harder to chase points since they took points away from the Q&A section.  With 10 blogs a week, that's 2,250 points per week, I could break into the top 20 for California in about 12 weeks.  That's the most reliable way to get the most points the quickest.  Blog commenting can get you 500 per week, but you have to be careful with that.  You don't want to do drive-by comments.

I've taken a few years off from points chasing, luckily there aren't a lot of active users climbing the ladder, so it hasn't been a concern.

I still do not understand how it works, but I love getting points daily, and I have a goal of how many points I want to reach each day.

I like the points scoreboard.  It gives me incentive to check in everyday to secure my hundred points.  I also like to see my ranking in my community which is number one and in my county which is number twelve.  I was proud to achieve Rainmaker and looking to see if I can reach one million points before I die.

This is a point-based system, so it brings out that competitive spirit, Karen but what I enjoy most is participating with like-minded people.

Am still working toward accruing enough points to get that FREE ActiveRain toaster though!
