My 1977 Ford Pinto Stationwagon
But from Jan 1986 - March 1986 it was not just my car, it was my home; so unattractive or not it sheltered me from the bitter Bay Area cold winter that year and I was grateful to have it.

This was my first car, a yellow Trabant, a.k.a. the Trabbi, a.k.a. a sparkplug with a roof, an East German special that was first driven by my grandfather, then my uncle, then my sister, and finally, me. East Germans had to wait 10 - 14 years - yes, that is years - to purchase a car (unless of course, you had an in with the "elite").

It had a steel frame with a duroplast exterior. I guess, nowadays it would win an eco-award - for recycled material only. It had a two-stroke engine and oil had to be added to the fuel. I sincerely wish it had not died on me as it is now a collectors' item.

Did I win? 😉

That was a fun video to watch - the narrator's comments made me laugh out loud a few times. I hadn't heard of, or seen, many of these cars from the 1970s - the 3 wheel Reliant Robin and the Sebring CitiCar were definitely ugly ones!

As for me, I've never owned any of these cars so guess I don't do ugly cars!

Hmm, when I was first beginning to drive, I didn't care about whether the car was attractive or not, haha.  I would say that in my adult life, all of the vehicles I have owned were attractive, at least in my eyes, haha.

I have never owned an ugly car. However, the perception of ugly has probably changed since my first car as a college graduation gift.

I had an old Buick, a bulldozer of a car in a constant state of something is wrong inside or out and had little brakes too. I had to go slow so I could stop in time. The whole back seat was covered in sunflower seed shells too. Whoa

None. I have always been and continue to be grateful for every car I have ever owned. They are all beautiful in my eyes - they get me to where I need to go when I need to get there.

I can’t think of any heinous cars I’ve owned. Probably disliked the ‘86 Volvo 240D Wagon the most when I was in college, due to status, but it was a great vehicle. The Saturn we had was not the most attractive, but the MPGs were amazing!

I learned on a 1957 Caddie DeVille. My grandfather always had them, with brocade interiors, gave this to my mom when he replaced with a 72 Sedan DeVille (and I got that one when she passed)
But that pink Caddie, LOL it was fast and a tank. My friends didn't want to ride in it bc in the mid 70s little cars like Pintos were 'cool' . . . and that was not little.
I regret not keeping EITHER of those cars! The Sedan DeVille was gold with black top and gold brocade interior, it was even BIGGER but the problem was AC did not work well and out here, that's a deal breaker.

Never had a bad one.  First car was a 1990s Mercedes 300e, a classic style.  Followed by a 2002 BMW 3 series convertible and currently a 2017 Lexus RX.

I've had some bad rental cars over the years though... along with a free upgrade to a Charger once.  Oh that was fun.

My dad bought me a Plymouth Valiant from a little old librarian. He figured it had been taken care of. It was also standard which I quickly learned how to drive.   I was happy to have a car, though. It looked something like this...

Andrew Mooers | 207.532.6573  A Volkswagen Bug stick, although everyone said it was easy to learn, to me, it was not. Much too much work for. Please give me an automatic transmission. Luckily, my next-door neighbor had too much to drink one day and totaled it. As I could not drive this darn car

This is a true story

My first car was an Oldsmobile. F- 85 is a classic now - it was white, with red leather seats, and a great car - My dad restored old cars when he was in good health, and my uncle Joe owned a car Dealership but passed away when I was a kid. My cousin also had a dealership. I have a passion for older cars

In college I sold my VW bug to buy an older car as I needed the money for something.  Man that care was ugly but fun!  It was an old station wagon that the back window had to be taped up  but it ran fine for a year or two until I graduated and bought a better car again!  Fun thinking about those days!

Andrew Mooers | 207.532.6573 - when it came to cars in the 1970s, I had champaign taste. Every year I went to the Chicago Auto Show and always fell in love with beautiful and the most expensive cars. I watched the video and I'm proud to say, I never owned any of the ones in the video you shared.

I enjoyed my 1973 black with leather black Challenger most. There were many others I owned too. I also loved my GTO convertible and red Camero too.

Cars I owned in the 70's include a '57 Ford Fairlane 2-door,  a '66 VW Van (blue and white with the chrome emblem on the front), a 1968 Chevy pickup truck, a Dune Buggy (that sat on a Volkswagen chassis with a VW motor), a 1970 gold MG B (blew the engine in San Antonio Texas on a road trip, left it there), a '73 Ford LTD gold 2-door, and a 1978 1000 Kawasaki LTD.

NONE OF THOSE VEHICLES WERE UGLY!

While there were some doozies over the years I was not among those that owned one. Perhaps the most dangerous car was a Pinto that my wife used to commute one mile to the train station daily. Otherwise it was in the garage/.

I guess our Vega wagon was the closet to ugly as far as cars that I have owned. But it was just perfect for the two of us and out young daughters. And it had a 4-on-the-floor that I loved.
