You have got to be kidding me. Maybe they know where tornados will hit too. This is asinine.

Yes. More BS pushed by Blackrock et al. The article I saw talked about the data source, which used "future modeling" which, in other words, is lies since no modeling to date has been even remotely accurate.
This is just one more reason we as agents need a site of our own to put away zillow. Too bad NAR f'd us on this as well.

I guess I would want to know about risks to a property or neighborhood I was moving to Gary Frimann, CRS, GRI, SRES . That being said I was told the house I'm in would never flood again after measures taken after the last 100 year flood... 50 years later we had a 1,000 year flood and it destroyed my house again.

And insurance companies will use this report to deny coverage or raise premiums in the impacted areas.

I avoid clicking on mystery links, however from those who got it to open it sounds like some sort of risk modeling program.
Most will think it bs and all will ignore the warnings. If people paid any attention to warnings then Florida would have been vacant decades ago, yet people continue to line up to enjoy the many hazards of that and similar locales.

With regard to insurance claims that information is available through a CLUE report. Assigning a risk factor to a location based on probability is simply ridiculous. When the smoke clears more insurance companies will deny insurance on many properties.

How much extra money to be made from insurance agents paying in for better higher up platform positioning spots. Like real estate agents Gary Frimann, CRS, GRI, SRES . The all knowing Z. Not just providing blind folded absolutes on what's everyone's home is really worth, but now predicting your local weather ahead. "Zillow also plans to offer tailored insurance recommendations to users alongside the risk information."

This will definitely have an impact on home prices and home buying. Many north easterners are regretting their moves south. NE will become more attractive, in spite of our winters, which can be beautiful, and safe if we're careful.

Can't open the link without signing up. But from the other answers it sure looks like more BS from Zillow. Not surprising.

Zillow is always seeking new ways to generate a new channel for income- and as climate change makes obtaining insurance more difficult and expensive- they are hoping people will turn to them as that new vertical.
Separately, most people tend to ignore risks in front of them- so I doubt they will factor this into their decision making. The reason why we have stock market crashes isn't because of some massive new aspect that changes the dynamic of the market. No, typically there are lots of warning signs of an impending collapse - and at some point the straw breaks that camels back- and everyone freaks out. It's foreseeable that this will be the case for too many people as it relates to climate change. Lots of regular posters here won't agree with me- that's ok- time will tell the tale. When I graduated in the mid 90's, my first job was with the trading division of a Fortune 100 company (I think it was even top 50)- an insurance company. Even though we were largely separate from our insurance parent, we did get the benefit of insights from corporate management. They were providing warnings of climate change and offered insight on how that was going to impact our business in the long term. They told us in the late 90's that over the next 20-30 years we would see insurance starting to skyrocket- while insurers would be pulling back their offerings. Isn't that exactly what's happening now? This isn't a crystal ball- but they were merely following where the data and reasonable projections took them.
Now, I am not saying I support Z's new vertical, but if I was working for them, I probably would have suggested that this might be worth a try.

On't Zillow could get away with this. We all know the chance of being sued for misinformation.

I can see it could apply in some locations. In HI we. now have a tool to forecast sea level rise going forward and we have to disclose this possibility to buyers near the shoreline. Disclose, disclose, disclose. Better that the buyer has been made aware, so they don't think you're trying to hide something.
