Hmm, I have not heard of stone wool insulation, but it certainly sounds interesting.

Having had experience with spray foam insulation in new construction I favor it. That said for adding insulation to existing structures, Stone Wool has the advantage.

Good morning, Fred. I've not heard of this insulation and have not heard of any builders in the area using it. But next time I'm at a new community sales center I'll ask about it.

Only time will tell if it stays viable.  This is my first experience with the product and I am not sure if we have enough data yet.

Is this the new asbestos type issue coming along in a few years?  Best to stick with something tried and tested like fiberglass.

I certainly think we'll be seeing a lot of it in commercial and multi house spaces as it fire rating is excellent and it could potentially keep an apartment fire from taking out an entire complex.

Stone Wool and Rock Wool have been used for years in construction as fire stop. It's still being used. I remember using rock wool back in the 70s so it's nothing new. A new manufacturing plant opened in 2021 about a 45 minute drive from here. Many HVAC companies use it as fire stop in their duct chases in both commercial and residential buildings. We also used it a few years ago to insulate around a small in ground pool.
