You have a variety of approaches in the Rain:
1.  You have members that have hired help actually doing the work, so they may be here to post, but not build a social engagement
2.  You have members that respond to comments on their own posts
3.  You have members that don't respond on their own posts, but instead leave a comment on the commenter's post
4.  Some people have comment notifications turned off, so they don't even know you've left a comment

Everyone gets to shape their own path for how ActiveRain best works for them.

I respond to all comments left on my posts, except for ones that are the exact same comment the person leaves on everyone else's posts, haha.  I don't really comment much on posts from people who do not comment on my posts.  I love supporting others, but when people aren't willing to support me as well, I move on to others that deserve support, haha.

As for comments to every comment left on my posts, guilty of not responding to all. Trying to get better but time is a big factor even in retirement.

As for referrals to agents here in the Rain, I call the agent and discuss the situation. Only one time did an agent not respond and the customer found their own agent. All other referrals were successful and ended with a closed transaction.

I reply to Q&A on topics that interest me or something I know about. I rarely reply to comments made on my Q&A, because I am trying to learn other people's thoughts unless I am trying to get a discussing going!

As for blogs, most of the time I don't reply since most are copy & paste comments for those gaining points in AR...

Those agents don't understand the AR dynamic. I try to respond to all comments. Long ago, I stopped commenting on those people's posts who never return the compliment. I realize it should be tit for tat... but at some point if someone doesn't engage I disengage.

Members always have the option to comment or not. The majority of members do not reciprocate with comments.

I try to respond to comments. I'm sure I'm guilty of missing some. Some comments don't call for a response. 

I agree, not sure why anyone would post, and not interact here.   There are times we are looking for referral agents, and if they don't respond, they won't get the referral.

I wish I had the time to respond to every post. Maybe they just post and leave and not really care about the great minds here in the rain or the value support.

Hi Michael- it's a question that's been around forever here. I'd say it depends on the blogger. Some may not be looking for anything but a platform to post their listings, etc. 

I understand that many are busy so they'll do their best to respond to comments on their posts but don't reciprocate.

I try to do both but only have so much time. 

     A lot of buyers say the same thing about "other agents" Michael Elliott . "You are the first and only person to respond" is a common complaint. Some agents only take buyers seriously if they darken their office door. Maybe the same ones who post but don't respond to comments. 

     In this market, we need inventory... seller listing referrals. But buyer referrals? Not so much.

Michael Elliott: I interact if people interact with me. If they do not, then I do not. I have friends here, and if I have a referral, you can bet they will and have received it

Probably the same reason some agents ask questions about their own state, like what it takes to be a resident there.

Oh, so many different ways to 'play in the Rain,' Michael! I am busy in the background, helping keep the doors open here. So, as I've chatted with Kathy Streib about this before, I do what I can and hope my limited engagement lets others know I absolutely DO care about them as I do everyone on this platform!

It must be the way they like to interact.

What ARMS said . . . there's no requirement to do so and there's no right/wrong in any approach or lack thereof, LOL

They post to attract business, not to socialize.
