Yes, since I only bought in 2021, I wouldn't (though I love it), but I could.
I could not - nor would I buy back my very first home in San Mateo, CA.

I could not afford to buy my home. The increase in property tax due to Cal. Prop. 13 from what I pay now would kill the deal.

We have a serious affordability problem in our market. The average price of a home in Montgomery County, Maryland is about $600,000. Single family homes in Kentlands, our home community, are in the $1m+ range.

Even at today's prices we could buy all the hoes we have owned. At today's prices I would not. Some are 2.5 times or more than we originally paid. One home would be easier to buy today since the original mortgage rate was 17.9% on a 15 year amortization.

It would be much harder. I was talking to someone tonight who said they can't afford to move back to our area.

We all know that opinionists are everywhere, John and I would appreciate knowing where the survey was conducted, the age group of the people they polled, financial status of the group, etc..

The answer to your question is yes. According to homebot (LOL), our house is worth $185K.

No I could not. Prices increased quite a bit since before the pandemic which is when we built (2nd half 2019). It's more than doubled in value since then.

Given my home is free and clear, Yes! If I was out shopping for a home with a minimal down payment, I could afford it... but I wouldn't want to pay that much of my monthly income for a house payment.

I could, but not that I want to. I saw that article and I totally believe it based on what my own clients purchased in the past.

I/We have always lived modestly John Juarez , in fact when we bought our home we were both unemployed. We both had good good credit and had no problem purchasing the house.

Yes, I could.  However, I would not.  If I were to pay that price for a home I would not buy again in CA.

In small rural markets, home ownership pricing and cost of living are not sky high and climbing. In populated areas with too many people, the question is not just could you afford to buy today but would you?

Too high and out of reach house prices makes folks get out, unfold the road map. To start their online search to look to other areas for an affordable relocation move.

Quality of life... how high is that where you live now? A 20 year old home buyer has a different gotta have, don't want list then a 60 year old.
