I simply let them know we are not a good fit to work together.

If we are not in alignment, or I am unable for any reason to serve them well, I let them know and wish them all the best.

If appropriate, I may refer them to another agent.

If that person didn't answer any questions, how were you able to determine they were a potential & lucrative? Yet qualify them as a Client, where it sounds like they're more of a customer / prospect!!!

I had someone like this. I began to doubt they were who they said they were. It was a very odd conversation and they offended about every protected class! I just let them go.

Cut them loose, they are not worth your time or trouble. I had a client like that and I had to tell them that we weren't a good fit and they would probably be happier with a different agent.

I really have only had a couple of clients that weren't a good fit for me to work with and I just was honest and wished them well.

Managed to leave this person

with feedback on how to future improve which infuriated them.

🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

HAAAAA BRAVO!

Person would not answer questions? Told long stories? I just wrote a post about this guy I wonder if it's the same guy!

You are much more gracious than I am. I have no interest in a teaching moment with people like that. As far as I'm concerned waste my time GTFO. I shouldn't have to try to have an honest exchange with someone who wants to work with me. They're either in or in the way!

It sounds like you handled it well.  It's tough to part from a lucrative client but our mental health is more important than money, haha.

I diplomatically lose them. This was not a motivated client. As others have said.... this is not a prospect. This is a suspect.

Richie Alan Naggar (I love that you pissed him off on departure) the minute they become pig-headed-difficult, I either refer them to an agent I feel can handle them better than I and take a referral fee vs. $0 for firing them. However, if they are an manageable jackass, like the one I just fired in August, I don't refer them because I wouldn't wish them upon anyone I know. I don't mind demanding clients, but rude/stubborn, untrustworthy or uncommitted clients I conduct pest control on.

It's always intriguing to encounter a wide array of personalities in the real estate business, and your experience resonates with many of us. In my years as a real estate agent, I've learned that while every client is unique, a successful transaction often hinges on effective communication and mutual respect.

From your description, it sounds like this individual may have been unsure or not fully ready to engage in the real estate process. Often, such behaviors can stem from a lack of clarity about what they want, or perhaps even underlying anxieties about the process itself. It's important to remember that as agents, while our role is to guide and advise, it's also to listen and understand where the client is coming from.

In situations like this, I've found it helpful to take a step back and reassess my approach. Sometimes, providing space and time can be more effective than trying to steer the conversation in a specific direction. Offering resources, such as market insights or guides to the home buying and selling process, can also help empower clients to feel more confident and involved.

However, there's also a point where you have to recognize when a client-agent relationship may not be the right fit. Our time and expertise are valuable, and it's crucial to work with clients who respect that and are willing to engage in a productive partnership.

In your case, it sounds like you made a difficult but necessary decision. It's a reminder to all of us in the industry that while we strive to accommodate and assist our clients to the best of our abilities, we also need to set professional boundaries and recognize when a situation is not conducive to a successful outcome.

I get a couple of these types every year. Some I am fairly certain are trying to launder money (I managed compliance training for a large global investment bank- which included Anti-Money Laundering training for all staff). If they are simply too difficult to work with- I let them know that I am not the right agent for them. Life is too short to work with clients that don't align with you. If they are likely doing something criminal (i.e. provided me with a proof of funds bank statement that I recognize as fake) then I will gently hint to them that I am onto the scam. Nothing too elaborate- i.e. it's my job to verify funds and the phone number provided in the statement you provided is not an active phone number at XYZ Bank. Can you provide me with an updated statement?  That sends them running from me fast. Usually there are multiple errors on these statements- so even if they are brave enough to try again- then I get a bit less gentle though I have never needed to do that.
