First off, an acre or two. Then, a rectangle type hacienda with bedrooms upstairs & down, all with balconies & own bath plus fireplace with sitting rooms. two sets of stairs, front and back with large, e-z to climb steps. Inside, below, large kitchen with plenty of space and cupboards with natural lighting sky lighting. Large living or great room with floor to ceiling windows for light and views. Closets galore throughout. Large porch that surrounds the entire home allowing for walks, sitting in the rain and lounging plus  BBQ. Hammocks on all side. Of course, house would be built to capitalize on wind, views, sunsets and sunrises. Indoor/outdoor pool, with a large, flowing lazy type river one could float around in past all rooms downstairs.  a must with giant TV screening. Additional media room that seats 30 comfortably with the most coziest, cushiony recliners available with food tray. Near the pool, a stream that goes to the outside and drains into a small water basin (lake). Small trickle or waterfall effect for sound and visuals. Outside, surrounding entire premises, lots of trees, bushes and vines. Long driveway to the house too. Nothing lavish but emphasis on function, practicality and comfort. Four car garage, workspace and carports with plenty of parking. Entire home insulated for weather performance and sound deadening. Wildlife a must

A couple that were on the drawing board was a 2 level Tuscan styled home that would've been built in Southern California and a French styled 3 level home on the East Coast with a "resort like" environment along with spa amenities on the lower walk-out level (inspired with my connection to the spa industry). A La Cornue range in the kitchen would be a must for Chef Pierre's specials like boeuf a la bourguignon & ratatouille! That's it briefly. Au revoir.

At this juncture of my life, I would never decide to build a new home. My only goal now is to leave the State of Confusion, The Land of Oz, California!

We're in progress now.  It's unconventional, and not the plan we started with, but it's the one we're building.  Quonset Hut house style.  Metal arches for the roof/sides, Hardie board on the ends with lots of doors/windows to optimize the views of the mountain & river valley).  10 acres, heavily wooded, close to Liz's family, and cuts time down from my family from 6 hours to 3.  Ranch style, about 2300 sq ft on the main level, unfinished basement with full walkout.  Open floor plan, wide hallways, roll in potential for master shower.  Full side to side deck on the back on the valley side.  Plenty of solar panels and storage batteries.  Well digging completed this week.  Room for our bees, a greenhouse and a large detached garage.  Not totally off-grid, but pretty close.  Should be ready in 2024.

My favorite house in La Jolla would be my model for it's coastal storybook charm and it's location...the building site would be coastal. I drive by this house in my work travels at least once per week. 20 years later it's still the best!

As I get older and find myself with the burden of owning too many homes, I find myself desiring something simpler.

My next build is likely to be a cabin deep in the woods with self sustaining solar or hydro electric, and of course a starlink so that I can keep up my internet presence.

My dream home would be well located with all the things needed on a daily basis nearby. It would be one story, courtyard design with a pool/spa inside the courtyard which would be enclosed (caged). There would be sliders from every room to the courtyard area to allow easy access to the lanai and pool. Every room would have a view of the pool and courtyard.

The lanai would have a southern exposure so it would be protected from the occasional north winds in the winter and we could use it year round.

There would be an open floor plan with the dining area overlooking the pool on one side of the kitchen and on the other side of the kitchen, an outdoor patio with a summer kitchen.

The living room would be a good size adjacent to the kitchen and dining area but no formal dining room...after all, this is Florida!

There would be a master suite in one section, full guest suite in another, my office would be at one end of the house with a separate den for my husband and a bonus room that would serve as a multipurpose room.

My dream house would be easy to maintain so the counters in the kitchen would be low maintenance, appliances would be smudge proof and easy to clean and there would be no ceiling fans (I hate cleaning them so would work in a creative design for floor fans).

We are now living life in the Geezer Lane so the usual aging in place features would be included. It would be easy to clean and as maintenance free as possible, with no high ceilings. Plenty of electrical outlets or charging stations are required to accommodate all the tech toys and electronics.

Some landscaping (native and drought tolerant plants) would provide great curb appeal and be easy to care for. A large, three car garage with plenty of storage would be essential. Construction would be poured concrete with a metal roof, impact windows and all the safety and security features available at that time. Form would follow function and it would be as energy efficient as possible.

I absolutely love older homes - I enjoy buying them and making them our own!

I have built new construction before and enjoyed that but, there's just something about the charm and character of an older home that makes my heart smile!

Hunting for two acres or a little more. On a hill, has inexpensive water, in a state that isn't crazy, probably rural but an hour or two from city culture...

Build a 1000 foot single story cottage. Dutch door, oak floors stained light, lots of windows fully insulated, high ceiling, a wood burning stove and a fireplace, a small barn, a chicken coop, and 12 foot high fencing.  Going to use a Elon tower, maybe also have secondary tower for internet. Build better solar than I did last time, with batteries in the barn.

If I were building a home today it would be very modern and include a lot of glass with ample covered outdoor living space.

Zero desire to build a new home.  When and if we did move it will be on a golf course with gorgeous water views, golf course and mountains and a huge entertaining area inside/outside style.  And of course a big outdoor kitchen for grilling and pizzas.

Since Dolores and I are in the advanced seniors category, we would prefer to have all of the living area on one floor. Our problem is that we have too much stuff that we really no longer need and preparing for a move will be a challenge.

I think about this all the time. If money were no object, it would be oceanfront. Since it is, I'd have to say a Modern Farmhouse, 1.5 story, 3200 +/- sf, gorgeous large open kitchen, front porch, covered back porch or lanai with fantom screens, primarily 1st floor living, great outdoor features like a pool and/or fireplace. Located somewhere in the southeast and most likely NC. A lake would be nice.

I'd kind of like my kids to live on my street but I doubt that will happen.

We plan to build one more time. The laundry room will be much closer, hopefully connected to the master closet.
