Oh, that is SO sad - not only for those children but, for your landlord - and your company, having to deal with this and pay attorney fees for advice on this situation. And, good luck clawing back that $1K+ back from Baby Mama. 

I feel for the Baby Daddy too - but, it speaks volumes that he has custody. In NC, you practically have to be a murderess for a mother to lose custody!

Thanks for the update Mimi Foster. Good to know that the place was taken care of and the poor guy that has to deal with that. One can only imagine who else she has sent crazy letters to.

What a sad story, Mimi. Someone clearly has some serious issues.

How crazy is this story, Mimi! Amazing how much damage one person can do and really sad for the tenant and the landlord.

A sad state of affairs to be sure. Likely, he may have a cause of action against her, but unlikely to collect anything. The property owner could ask him to subrogate his claim for them to pursue, but also unlikely to collect.

That woman needs help and he needs to consult with an attorney about the letter she wrote and the allegations she made. It would not be a bad idea for the landlord to consult with his attorney also to see if he can recover the costs.

The letter was not a sworn statement. It was fiction and slanderous.

You could ask for a letter, report, application, or complaint to be sworn under oath and notarized, as an affidavit.

If any statements made under oath before a notary are later proven to be false, the affiant can be criminally charged with perjury.

This procedure can also be used if a tenant lies on their rental application.

This is why courts use Rules of Evidence, so the credibility of the evidence is more reliable. 
With so many liars, scammers, and fraudsters in the world today, it is good practice to always use a second or third credible source or witness to confirm information, and filter out "sour grapes" accusations.

Something is very wrong with the system if any person can make a false unsworn accusation of illegal drug use and require an expensive inspection to prove you are not guilty.

Reports should be filed directly with law enforcement where there is a penalty for filing a false report.

Working with indigent prisoners in my ministry I can tell you that meth addicts come up with some very tall tales Mimi Foster . You wouldn't believe the stories I've heard and they usually involve death and/or murder. They are never true but I always report them to the Sheriff.

Very sad for those kids and the father......and not good situation for landlord. Drugs do horrible things to people that use. I see addicts every day on the streets as we are driving around.....you can tell they are druggies. Some of them are in that strange position due to one drug in particular I heard.  It's like a bent over trance.  Very sad situation and bringing drugs in to the USA needs to stop.  Yes I went off topic.....sorry about that Mimi.   It just drives me bonkers to see this destruction show up everywhere now.

A similar situation happened to a buddy of Gary's years ago. The wife was a druggie and caused all kind of issues for him and made it difficult for him to get custody.  BUT he prevailed.  And both those kids are now doing well and in grad school.  Some do get out of those bad situations.  Their Dad is an aerospace engineer and never gave up fighting!  Good man.

I was under the impression that a meth inspection was only necessary if it was being manufactured.

This is incredibly sad. Thank God the Father is sane and has custody of his kids. Unfortunately, there are crazy nut jobs like that all around and that population of people continues to grow.  Prayers for those kids.

Given the circumstances, having found the place in pristine condition, no patches, etc... I could understand forgoing the cost of the meth inspection, and perhaps he might consider filing some fresh legal paperwork against the baby mama.

After much thought I decided that if it were me in this situation I would ignore the letter completely.  Anyone could do the same thing to any property.  

Sounds like this woman is crazy and needs to be investigated instead, probably locked up, haha.

Mimi- for a person to be so vindictive and proactive with their anger sends up a red flag to me. I wonder if she has any visitation rights at all.  If so, I would reconsider those unless he or a third party is present.

What a rollercoaster of an experience... We do not get paid enough for all of the things we have to put up with in this industry.
