The databases are for sale to whomever wants them and you can buy them online and have access to them the same day.  Most states cost under $100.

That land is valuable and from what I've been reading there are already companies coming in (like Blackrock) as well as celebs on the island (like Oprah) that are trying to buy everything they can.  In fairness, Oprah has been trying to buy up that area for many years but no one was willing to sell.

Hella M. Rothwell, Broker/Realtor® ... As Realtors we have ourselves "out there" and being able to contact us is information we must provide in order to start the conversation.  So I'm guessing there are many ways to find out who you are and how to reach you.

In Georgia all brokers must have public email addresses so consumers can email us if they want to.  We also must have a public phone number on the real estate commission site.  Granted I have different every day phone numbers and emails than what is there, but I do monitor those emails too.

Every organization sells your info, and the state is the first to offer you up for sale to the junk mail lists.

No telling.  We know there are many ways to get emails to target for marketing and other purposes, including purchasing a database of emails.

   Also, NAR may sell your contact data.

I suspect the Realtor board as the source. Also, what we are seeing with this aggressive law firm is their marketing & business model in play. Their foot is in the Maui doorway.

The fire is not out but they have grounds for a case and are seeking clients to join in the suit. Nothing more than ambulance chasers! Sis years to investigate Hunter and no resolve. These guys are contacting you sop quickly. Proceed with caution.

In addition to those who will work to help those struggling with the devastation wrought in Lahaina and other Maui areas, there will also be those who will try to make money off of the tragedy.

I have one public email address on my website for general communication. But, I use other unpublished email aliases at Proton Mail for all confidential communications and transactions.
I have separate email channels for security, financial, legal, medical, shopping, personal, business, etc.  They receive zero spam because they are unpublished. 
If I start receiving spam on my shopping email channel, I know that one of my shopping vendors has had a data breach. I can then change that shopping email alias to a different email alias to stop the spam.
I use Proton Mail Plus which comes with 10 email alias channels.
All incoming email is routed to one master InBox or can be sorted to separate folders using email rules.  

There are so many ways to get targeted list. Of course people will want to capitalize on the fires and anything else they can.

Are you serious? You can buy anything you want online - professions, plain old address. I wouldn't spend time or concern on spam.

In NC & SC, we are required to provide our Boards with a valid email address and that is made public for the world to see!

I know some state associations do sell your information. And I've heard that NAR does as well.
